I am a white guy and my hair is dark and naturally curly. I like the short dread/loose cornrows look...

Is it considered cultural appropriation to adopt a hairstyle which traditionally is of African origin?

For me it would not be a political statement but an aesthetic one. I just like the look and think it would suit my face and build. Your comments, please. Thank you.

I don't think it flatters anyone's face really. Occasionaly if I see someone I know with cornrows they come off as trying to be that 'ghetto' image. But hey if ya like it go with it.

Since we never put a patent on the hairstyle, hey go ahead and wear all the cornrows you want. Our ancestors may have started the hairstyle but any race can wear it if it looks good on them. It does not look good on everybody, some white people look crazy as **** with those african american hairstyles. Let your mirror be the judge.

I say if you like it, go for it. However I know a white guy who has hair similar to yours and he wears a fro. Some people talked bad about him because of it, but other thought it was awesome. So be prepared if you do it, because there are always the negative people out there!

My bestfriend aka my twin...is black and i am white.... her mom considers me another daughter also.

Every now and then her mom ask if she can do my hair in cornrows.

I personaly love my hair how she does it.

But I have to honestly say I have never seen a white guy have cornrows that I thought was attractive with them.

Although cornrows is originally a 'black' style, SOME white people actually looks good with it. No red scalps.

You fix your hair whatever way makes you feel comfortable with yourself. Personally, I think cornrows look silly, but that is just MY opinion.. and opinions are just like a$$ holes.. everybody has one. ha.. be true to yourself, my friend..

It depends, some non African Americans scalps are really too light and it looks funny, but that's my opinion. Do what every you want to do to your hair.

A style is a style, some people can carry it off some cant. Also people will always think that things have to MEAN things, dont let them bother you. If you like you, that's enough

If you like the look and you want to have it then go for it, nobody's the boss of you but yourself so no one should say anything.
