That's interesting. Try bouncing that question off some TREK dealers in your area. Maybe they might know (that is, if they are interested in being helpful). I know the 2300 was available as a frame, but I don't know about the 2200. Both were sweet bikes. I'd also try asking about 2005 or 2006 frames if you "strike out" on the 2004.
