Do you tip your groomer? I am a groomer, and ppl seem to think we're millionaires. Most work on commision, and it is customary to tip. Just like you would tip your hairdresser. Why don't you?

YES I tip my dogs groomer. I have 2 dogs and I tip for each dog. My dogs love their groomer! I can't imagine having someone bath, de-matt, clip nails, express anal glans and not think they deserve a tip. That is just RUDE!!

Tip jars..how tacky. I refuse to put one of those on my counter.

I do not expect tips (most groomers don't) but they sure are a nice way of letting us know that the customer is happy with the service. Grooming a dog is so much harder and more time consuming than cutting a persons hair. And almost everyone tips their hairdresser.

Wow Frog...I feel sorry for your groomer, waitress and hairdresser. (talk about cheap) I'm not a millionaire either, but I tip almost everyone...delivery boy, mechanic, paperboy etc. I think the tables would be turned if you were a groomer and realized how hard a job it was. We dont play with puppies all day and alot of us groomers have spent alot of time and money to go to school for grooming and also attend trade shows/seminars to further our education.

I ALWAYS tip my dog's groomer. He has a standing appointment every month. I give a $ 5 tip each time on a $ 25 bill for service. First, I grew up in the tradition that the barber/hairdresser is a person you tip, so I figure I need to tip my dog's hairdresser. Second, I am leaving my precious baby with her all day. I want her to always see him as blessing, and never as a burden. I know you cannot buy "friendship," and she would be good to him anyway. But I think it helps -- like when I'm running late, etc. Never any problems or complaints to/about me.

Educate the public.

I don't know much about the profession but it seems to me that dog grooming seemed like it was for the mostly rich and an indulgence to the dog. And then fairly recently it's become a service to the local community.

If my take is right, the culture shift to lower and middle class has not included tipping. People will do it if they think it's supposed to happen.

Maybe a sign? I get my hair cut at Fantastic Sams and they have a little sign by the cash register explaining that they expect a 20% tip for the cutter.

And please don't just get a jar and tape a sign that says "tips" on it and put in a dollar. Every time I see one of those I think the cashier snuck it out there when the boss wasn't looking.

Tipping is tipping I would no sooner tip a hairstylist than a groomer....UNLESS....it was above average service. I am also not a millionaire yet every poor waitress, hairstylist, and now groomer wants paid above and beyond for mediocre service. What gives?

only took my dog to the groomer once and it was a total disaster..they wanted extra due to her breed and then when I asked if they had found any fleas on her they said nope, we get her home [some 45 mins drive] by the next day she was totally riddled with fleas, also as I picked her up I sort of expeted her to smell a bit nicer and mentioned this to the groomer who just sprayed some perfume on her...........personally have my doubts she was even washed.

I now do it all at home BUT I do tip the guy who trims her nails mainly due to the fact he does not charge me extra due to her breed nor does he get all snitty with her, but will do it very quickly and most of all away from other dogs.

Yes, I tip my dog groomers 20%. They deserve it because they are so loving and kind to every animal in their care. I appreciate that!
