I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, USA and never heard primary dentition referred to as "milk teeth". Is this a regional expression, or perhaps a European term? Does one even need teeth to drink milk?

Umm...thanks for the dictionary deffinitions. Maybe I didn't phrase the question correctly. I know WHAT the term means; I was wondering if it is widely used in the US, since I've lived in various places, raised two kids, and only recently heard it used to refer to primary teeth.
