Cause religion is built on lies and inconsistency.

Actually Catholicism is all about empowering men.
That's why Jesus is a man, only priests, bishops , etc all the way to the pope are men.

Would they have tolerated a women with multiple husbands in those days. No, cause it's a religion for men.

In Biblical times, polygamy was practiced widely; as was same-sex and beastiality. Yet each polygamous family portrayed in the Bible is unhappy. Whether the problem is the rivalry between Rachel and Leah, the two sisters married to Jacob, or between Hannah and Peninnah, both married to Elkanah, or the conflicting demands by David’s many wives and their feuding children, the biblical authors subtly points out the disadvantages of a polygamous marriage.

In contrast, Sarah and Abraham form a distinctly monogamous marriage within a polygamous culture, as do Rebecca and Isaac. In the Garden of Eden, too, we have one woman and one man. The narrative makes clear that an intense relationship between husband and wife in a polygamous marriage is nearly impossible. The presence of multiple, contending wives dilutes all the relation-ships within the family unit. The Bible strongly implies that polygamy does not work, that monogamy is a preferable structure. The intensely committed personal and loving relationship between one male and one female parallels the intensely committed relationship between on human and God.

If anyone here had any doubt about why I consistently say that fundamentalist Christians want to jail or kill gay people (and who knows who else they have their eye on), read Malak's answer (copied from above):

MALAK
"Because the bible didn't say to stone to death a man who had 10 wives, but it did say to stone to death men who had sex with each other. Who knows, maybe there were more females than males, so a lot of women would have gone childless. We didn't make the rules ya know."
**********

This is shameless display of murderous intent, based entirely on religion and the rules handed down from that era. This is simply additional evidence that ethics based on religion lead to heinous acts. Ethics based on broad, dynamic community standards and reason help avoid such harm.

Marriage in the Us requires a liscence, because it allows the holders of the liscence to have certain tax breaks, etc. So it is a government mediated business contract. Since there is a seperation of Church and State (1), any argument to the sacredness of anything is irrelevant to law. So the legal definition of marriage cannot be religious in the US.

If you read more in depth, the bible says god allowed it out of their hardheartedness. The jews were stiff necked people, and god allowed it. the bible is also very clear on the matter of homosexuality. 1 corinthians 6:9-11 "...nor men who lie with men...will inherit god's kingdom."
