Kegs are 15.5 gallons. Barrels are 31 gallons. No one uses the latter because they are too big and heavy to move.

I once owned a beer and wine shop in North Carolina. We sold the 1/2 kegs because we were told we couldn't get the larger ones. I do know that most people buying them called them a keg and didn't know about the larger ones. For private parties, the 1/2 kegs are easier anyway. You can always get two.

Most typically, the half barrel, but also quarter barrel kegs. Sometimes, particularly with small brew pubs and home brewing, corny kegs (5 gal) are used, too.

Ahhh maybe enough for 4 lawn chairs. And maybe another gal of brew. Never know Mr. Duggar is a man of mystery.
