September 2006
Ekadasi Monday 04 September, 2006
Pradosham Tuesday 05 September, 2006
Pournami Thursday 07 September, 2006
Sadhurthi Sunday 10 September, 2006
Krithigai Tuesday 12 September, 2006
Ekadasi Monday 18 September, 2006
Pradosham Tuesday 19 September, 2006
Sivarathri Wednesday 20 September, 2006
Amaavasai Friday 22 September, 2006
Sashti Thursday 28 September, 2006

These are the days in September that are potent to perform additional austerity to control the material senses and increase devotion.

In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, Ekadasi is observed where there is an abstinence from eating grains, of course at any time, those devotee's who are making tangible spiritual progress
do not offer meat, fish, eggs or poultry, which are tamic.

I would recommend fasting on Shivaratri or the 9 days of Navratri.
Methods of fasting also vary widely and cover a broad spectrum. If followed strictly, the person fasting does not partake any food or water from the previous day's sunset until 48 minutes after the following day's sunrise. Fasting can also mean limiting oneself to one meal during the day and/or abstaining from eating certain food types and/or eating only certain food-types. In any case, even if the fasting Hindu is non-vegetarian, he/she is not supposed to eat or even touch any animal products (i.e. meat, eggs) on a day of fasting.

I see people have to put their 2 cents worth in, about their religion and not answer the question. The people here who say you don't eat when fasting are right. May you have peace and contentment.

Isn't the point of a fast to eat nothing?

If you are merely abstaining from some foods and not others, that is abstinence, not a fast.
