hi lurgress, yes stay away from ebay to buy your pc the reason is that you are buying somebody elses trouble. first of all i have always bought a dell and if i was going to get a cheaper dell i would get in touch with dell and see about a refurbished machine that machine was not sold or it is a return and they fixed the problem but look at the advantage the machine that you are going to buy could be five to eight years old and you don't know what the owner before downloaded on the harddrive. it could be anything from knitting to hot porn and your brother hit that file. no,no don't do it right now you can get a dell from the factory that has nothing like that and it will last him a lot longer. my nephews mother buys a lot from ebay and she has been ripped of so many times i lost count so go to dell. lol good luck pc hunting but don't be in a real big hurry to buy look for your best deal but not from ebay.

Sounds like you need to install a DVD decoder, not standard software with most PCs.
Or it might be the fact you have Intel Inside.

Install the dvd player software that came with your computer as media plyer won't play dvd's without one if it didn't come with one then you need a dvd decoder like power dvd or win dvd. There is a free player called VLC that can playback dvds.
VLC:

As the previous answer states, you probably will need to buy a software program to watch the DVD's. I too recommend "PowerDVD", and if you click on the below link it'll take you to a vendor page where it's for sale for $5.00

Download your receipt and get your money back off Dell, it's clearly not fit for purpose if they've advertised it as being able to play DVD's and it doesn't. Basic consumer rights!

The player available at http://www.cliprec.com will install the nessecary decoder. I've never used it though so I've no idea if it's full of garbage, add ons, whatever.
