If I mix 1 part 70 proof Southern Comfort with 1 part 100 proof Southern Comfort, do I get a 170 proof Southern Comfort drink? If so, how does the math work out?

P.S. I would be mixing the drinks exactly half and half with no additives.

Let's do the math:
1 oz 70 proof (35%) would be 0.35 oz alcohol, 0.65 oz water
1 oz 100 proof (50%) would be 0.5 oz alcohol, 0.5 oz water

That would total 0.85 oz alcohol and 1.15 oz water. 0.85 oz of alcohol divided by the total of 2 oz = 42.5 % or 85 proof.

So...why mix them in the first place?
