It varies from prerson to person. But, for the most part IMHO, the AVATAR is used in two ways by two groups of people. There are those that pick an AVATAR that is a reflection of how that person sees themself, and there are those that pick and AVATAR that projects how they wish, hope or wnat to be like. This theory of mine is not really a new insight. The same can be said by those people who pick a ring tone. Some "experts" claim they can know just about everything about a person by the type of rin tone(s) they have on their cell phone. If you found my answer shows that I took the time to give a unique answer, or that my answer was helpful in your quest for knowledge, please be so kind as to vote my answer the BEST!! Thanks

I haven't yet constructed my avatar however if you are familiar with the morrowwind game one of the slightly adjusted faces in the defalt options list looked like a cartoon stylized version of my real face funny/trippy/creepy all at the same time I plan to make my avatar look like an avatar version of my real self. I hope this aswer was helpful.

I don't think so. Because lots of people post their photo, and sometimes it really looks like the avatar and other times it doesn't.
Sometimes someone has a really cute avatar, but their photo is quite hideous. Other times the avatar looks like nothing special, but they are really good-looking.
I'm only judging on guys, because I only bother looking at their photos ... sorry girls!
I think my avatar is slightly cuter than me, but it's the closest I could get with the options.
I hope you post your photo!

I only go for accuracy. City background, because I live in an urban area. Headphones, because my iPod is constantly attatched to my ears.
As far as the cuteness factor, again, I go for accuracy. I could just put a photo up of myself, but the avatar thingy is fun to play with. I think there are more options as far as bone/face structure than there used to be.
And as for a person's ugliness accurately represented by the Yahoo! avatars...anyone's guess.

no correlation
and there are ugly avatars too
may be you should have asked the question as
"is there a correlation between the cuteness of your avatar and the grace of your imagination?"
Then I'd say : YES!

I dress sort of like my avatar... maybe my skin is different, since is olive. My hair is not so long. The face resembles if the image is lttle and like it is right here, in the msn, it doesn't... I have a bat. cause I like them , and there are some at my house. and I love foggy sea scenes. Overall gives a similar impression-

You are much cuter than your avatar. I wouldn't have married your avatar 21 years ago. There, that dates both of us...

Yes, I made it look as close to the real me as possible. It would be more realistic if I could add a few pounds to my avatar though.
