To add muscle to your frame you will need some weight training. There are many ways to do this, so it will depend on what you like. You can do a full body workout 3 times a week (Mon,wed,Fri, with a day in between) or you can work upper body one day, next day lower body, and so on all week, giving yourself 1 day a week off of every activity.
You will probably need some guidance, a trainer maybe. You can go to "bodyforlife.com" and look at the demo's they have there to get some ideas. It's too detailed to try and set you up on a program on line like this. Hope some of this helps.....

An idea of your height, weight, and age would have helped, but I will assume you are young if you want to gain weight. If you were my age you would be wanting to lose weight.

Any exercise will add muscle over time. A good way to do it is use your own body weight to add muscle. Push-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges. Do sets of 10 or 20 and move to another muscle group. Then start the sets again. Using your own body as the resistance reduces your chance of injury and it's a heck of a lot cheaper. If you find it too easy you can hold some weight while you are doing the sets. Gallon milk jugs work well and are very adjustable.

If you have access to a gym with weight machines, the easiest way to start is just doing a full round on their machines.
