ive been doing alot of digital photography in the past few years. i just started a photo 1 class in college. whats the best beginner's 35mm manual camera for around $200-300. i need somthing simple, fast and quiet.

Olympus OM-1 OM-2 OM-3 OM-4

the 1 and 3 are fully manual

the 2 and 4 have manual and semi auto mode

these are top quality cameras...the best you can buy....no longer made...check eBay

You're in luck! Used 35mm film cmaeras are going cheap, cheap, cheap these days because of the craze for everything digital. I recommend you consider buyng a Canon AF because you'll be able to use some of the attachments - lens, flash, etc. with a Digital SLR later if you buy right.

There is one 35mm manual that came to be known as THE student's camera: Pentax K1000.

I agree with Derek D. The Pentax K1000 is possibly the best student camera made, but it is one that you can then use for the rest of your life - possibly. It's built like a tank. It has the basic functions that you need as a student, but it also has a couple of automatic modes for your lazy days.

Jenny's right about the OM-1. Had one, and regret ever getting rid of it. Another would be a used Pentax K-1000. Still a lot of 'em out there, and a ton of lenses, too.

i have an old canon at1 that i got used at a local camera shop most should have used that people will trade in and they often will have a short warranty to try it out to see if it all works etc

Those Pentax K1000 are hard to beat. They are very inexpensive and nearly bulletproof.
