Your question made me remember that I had a bag of beggin' strips in my pantry, so I just went and got three of them out and gave them to my german sheppard. She has eaten all three now. It took her about 3 minutes. If it had been actual bacon she would've eaten a pound in that time, so I just asked her which she prefers, bacon or beggin' strips, she didn't answer but we all know that actions speak louder than words.

My dogs know the difference, they won't touch the Beggin' Strips if there's something better around. Sailor won't eat them at all.

When we're working in obedience or agility, Beggin' Strips just don't cut it, but they'll work for the real thing.

They also prefer Burger King over McDonald's.And Dairy Queen over 31 Flavors.

"Dogs don't know it's not bacon".

Yeah, it's corporate BS. I've bought them once -- they are way overpriced!!!

One of my dogs likes to eat blankets...and that's not bacon.

So, dog's don't know the difference between bacon and blanket.

The only way to really know if they taste like bacon, is to eat one. Not something I'm going to rush out and do.

Sure they can tell the difference.
You can tell the difference between fresh meat and processed meat can't you? They can too.
And some dogs are picky. I have one that will eat things depending on her mood, and I have one that will eat anything that I hand to her.

I don't know. I have 2 Siberian Huskies. One of them is a very picky eater - she has to sniff, analyze, and dissect everything before she eats it. My other husky is a real garbage mouth and will eat anything without even so much as smelling it first.
