I have a chocolate lab, he is 1 1/2 years old. My husband and I are thinking about getting another lab. Has anyone noticed any huge behavioral or training issues between chocolates, blacks, and yellows? I have been told chocolates are the most stubborn of the bunch, but I have nothing to compare him to. Anyone own a chocolate and a black or yellow?

I have had Labs for the last 20 years, and I can tell you there is NO difference between the colors. Lab color is like eye color -- you can have 2 black parents and get chocolates or yellows in the litter, just like 2 brown eyed parents can have a blue eyed child. I have had all three colors of Labs, as well as mother and daughter, and they are all stubborn as rocks, but the sweetest dogs ever bred - IMHO!

I have a black, who is stubborn with the best of them. He is 10 and will not back down. We have him do doggie pushups (down-sit-down-sit....) which helps to bring him down a notch. But he is also so loveable and loyal.

We also have a yellow, who is a nut case. He is 7 1/2. He runs around the house with a sock collection. If he can't find socks, he takes them from the hamper or the laundry basket. He doesn't chew them. He just shoves 4 or 5 in his mouth when he is happy. Which is about 20 times a day.

He also has a sense of humor. He loves to tease Dad. He will lay in his crate all day long, as soon as he hears Dad coming, he jumps on the couch and looks at the door, tail wagging, waiting for Dad. As soon as Dad leaves, he is off the couch.

Both of my boys were from a guy dog colony, the black being a retired stud, the yellow was released due to a heart problem. Most of the labs in the colony were blacks or yellows, for some reason very few chocolates stayed in the colony as guide dogs or were used for breeding.

They are really smart dogs, and do need a lot of stimulation. They also will play together very well, I have never heard a snarl or growl, they get along well. If you get another one, they will bring a lot of love and laughter to your home.

Chocolates are more stubborn, but can be trained to do just about anything with a little patience. I have one and he's the best dog in the world. They get along with other labs perfectly, and any other breed for that matter.

i own a yellow and they are the most mellow of the three. He's amazing. He's 14months old and about 80lbs. I would definately go yellow. we had a black when i was growing up and he was destructive no matter how much attention we paid to him. And with my yellow, he had two accidents house training, never digs, chews or barks exessively. GO WITH YELLOW!!

All dogs are unique and have their own personalities. I have worked with local rescue groups and have not noticed a difference. I have seen dosile Chocolates and wirey Yellows ...really depends on the individual.

I don't think there are any differences from one color to the next...they all have good and bad traits.
