I doubt it. Americans are what? TOOO proud. They have been taught, not to humble themselves. You my friend, believe whatever you like.
I have been in business over 20 years. One of the companies I own is very hard, demanding work. Sure it is. I have paid guys $18.00 per hour CASH money. I have paid these guys $1,000.00 a week CASH.
These clowns get rich after 2 weeks and won't show up for a few days. I cut the pay back too $8.00 per hour and made them work everyday to make a living. After a month, I took it back to $18.00 per hour, it started all over again. They wouldn't show up.
I quit hiring just "people" looking for jobs. I have "certain" people" to fill jobs. It's the best thing that ever happened.
Now......You tell me.
.Great Q*

One of three things would happen.
1. The pay rate would go up and legal immigrants or Americans would take the job. I've mowed lawns before. I know other Americans would, too.
2. People would design a machine that could do the job more cheaply than legal human labor. Cutting edge research in robotics is now being done in Japan instead of the US because they don't have enough people to do the jobs and the US is overwhelmed with cheap labor.
3. People would decide that the job really wasn't worth paying people to do it. I clean my own toilet. So can everyone else.

A small town of illegals cross the border everyday, yet the farmers are having a hard time finding people to pick the crops.
The man who put in my gas pipes was illegal. The 55 people the INS caught here working at the airport were illegal. The guy that lives across the street and owns a lock smith company and his family and all his employees are illegal. The guy that trimmed my tree was illegal. Most of the carpenters that build the Developments around here are illegal. Economic 101 tells me these are not jobs Americans won`t do. They are jobs Americans are displaced from.

Of course they would, and the definately do. I do.
In absolute truth, immigrants generally suck. But they work for real cheap and NOBODY is going to raise wages to get stuck up Americans to work. Americans do annoying crap like sue, whine about families, and cause their employers to become more and more awre of the IRS.
At least Mexicans are short and close to the ground so they can pick vegetables and pick beans real good without suffering from major back pains.
That's usually a good enough reason to take a low cost illegal over a higher paid(or even low cost) American.
The real bottom line is: Can we get the bums out of work to fill these positions in order to lower the unemployment rate?
I doubt that because they won't do the job. The only people who will do migrant work are the people who care to do work and people who care to do work have better jobs with better pay and more responsibility etc. But if they had kids like me to do that kind of work during school, like I do, it might make things a lot better.
Then again, most of the kids in school and college are wusses...

The illegals don't even want to do the work they do! They do it because the have to. Because they have people depending upon them for their survival in a way that 95% of Americans can not understand. Latin America doesn't have food stamps. Unless you go outside of this country and outside of tourists areas you can not fathom the poverty that people live in around the world.
If all of the illegals were sent back and all those jobs were open - there would be dirty toilets galore, and not one restaurant in the country could open its doors.
We need them as much as they need us. And its another black mark on our country to pay them less than what white people make, not pay them over time or holiday pay. People are always complaining about them being on Medicaid & getting food stamps - Hello! Those services aren't easy for an American citizens to get! Let alone someone without a social sec. #.
Is anyone paying attention to the reality of this situation??

I do not know anybody that has people cut their grass, or clean their toilets. I make a combined income of 80-90K a year, and the wife and I do all of our own chores. My in laws make a lot more than we do, and they do their own chores.
Who are these people you speak of? The rich? The rich will always pay to have somebody do their work for them. The middle class will continue to do their own dirty work, and the poor will continue to, well, do what ever it is they do.
Fact of the matter is, the "Americans wont do those jobs" is a myth created by those who want the Mexicans to stay in this country so they can continue to exploit them. The Mexicans are more than happy to do so, as our government will give them all the welfare they can handle, and more! Win win situation, farmers get dirt cheap labor, Mexicans get welfare, free schooling, free housing, free medical care etc.

Not anytime soon. It may progressively change, if there is a pay increase. But I believe that the current generations have already built up too strong of a stigma against these vocations to actually perform them. Give it some time and it may be a possibility.

My best friend owns a landscaping business and one of the jobs illegals like to do most is landscaping. My friend refuses to hire them and pays his employees respectfully. Illegals work for a lot cheaper than Americans do and it's usually the business owner who wants to save as much profit as he can that hires illegals who will work for minimum age or lower. I think those who hire them should be fined and not given tax breaks like they are for hiring them.

Maybe so... but would Americans want to PAY MORE for these things? I personally like inexpensive products and services and do not want my costs for basics to increase by 2-4 times!

You know, I think many Americans have lost any type of work ethic that involves any kind of WORK. Some might do their own work, but others would always look for someone else to clean up for them because they are lazy and spoiled.
