Rotts have their tails docked at birth. When they are used for what they are originally bred for, their tails got in the way so they were docked. It's no more inhumane than having them spayed or neutered.
SOME DOGS ARE BORN WITHOUT TAILS. Most tailless breeds however are docked at birth or a day or two after.

All dogs have tails. People dock the tails of breeds like Dobermans and Rottweilers.

Because back when they would herd cattle their tails could easily get stuck in fences. They also feel like whips when they wag,my 2yr old has a half tail for that reason. Tails however are very important for other dogs to read eachothers body language. They also act as 'rudders' when the dog swims.

Rottweilers have their tails docked when they are pups. Over time, their genetic make up has left it such that they have no muscle control over their tail. Leaving it in place can cause serious damage, as they can't control their tail, they can easily injure it. They also don't feel the injury. So for the safety of the pet. they have them docked. That's what I have been told.

Because people cruelly cut them off when they're pups, every now and then you'll find one that has a normal tail

Because their owners have them clipped off when they are young. Same reason that pit bulls have short, perky ears.

BTW, it's rottweiler
