the most encouraging thing i've learned recently ...is that the future = the ability to CHANGE. u can very well become a math genius in the next 10 years....if u study hard enough!! but u won't know til u figure out ur study habits, what works for u, things that can help u get better. u can ALWAYS improve...always. no matter what anyone says, no matter how u feel today...tomorrow can be different!! and by ur choices, etc! :) so instead of feeling like crap today...try to do things to help you in the future, so that tomorrow, the next day, u will understand things better and better. don't worry, it takes time. but keeping that optimism is KEY in life....whether in math, or relationships, or anything in life. life is a struggle...but u have choices and can change things. good luck~!

Have you ever looked up how to take a test?
I didn't learn till I was already out of high school.
Do not insist on completing each question before going to the next.
This is extremely important. If you spend a lot of time on one question that you don't understand there can be two negative outcomes:

Losing time
Remember one question may only be worth one point, if you are not able to answer questions later because you have lost time you could lose more points!

Becoming nervous
Becoming nervous can make you lose your concentration and that leads to worse results.

If possible, go through the entire test answering the questions you are sure you know.
This results in your being more relaxed and feeling more confident.

Go through the test a second time working out the answers to more difficult questions.
Now you will feel more confident and this will improve your test taking. However, remember to not waste too much time on any one question.

Once you have gone through the test twice, see if any of the questions asked can help you answer those really difficult questions.
This is a little used trick. Sometimes questions asked are answered in later questions asking for different things. This should not be tried until you have finished the test and have some time remaining to try the questions you have had problems with again.

If you have a strong feeling about a question when you first answer it, don't go back and change it later.
Usually (but not always) a strong first impulse means we know the answer and we don't really have to think about it too much. Going back to think about it usually makes you unsure and often causes an error. This is very common so be very careful!

Play the odds
If you don't know the answer, write something. If you are answering a 4 possibility multiple choice question you will still have a 25% chance of being correct!

Do not cheat!!!
Taking a test is as much for you as it is for your teacher. If you cheat, you don't help yourself in the long run.

I hate math too. I'm in 11th grade taking Trig now, so I had geometry last year. I can say that geometry was the hardest math I've taken so far and I completely hated it. Even with doing bad, I had B's. Just as long as you do your homework I'm sure your grade will even out (if you didn't do so well on the test.). Don't sweat it though... no one is good at everything and you tried the best you could. I know school can be very stressful but it isn't life so you just gotta move on. =)

I hate math, too...even now. Try to remember it was just one test on one day - it isn't the end of the world - and I doubt you'll fail because of it. Think of (and maybe do) something you're good at to get your mind off the bad stuff...or, if you're really brave, go over what you messed up on in the test to show yourself that you really could do it after all. Good Luck!

Sometimes being the last one to finish just means you are more thorough than everyone else. But even if you did badly, just think it is the beginning of the year, you have time to make it up. Just identify what you did wrong. Maybe you didn't study enough so that you felt comfortable doing the problems? Just try to fix it for the next time and you'll be fine! Trust me!

Just rest assured that you tried your very best. Don't let math frustrate you. Just like anything else, it's a language. It has its lingo and its definitions. Try going to askmath.com or aboutmath.com or talk to your teacher. It's our job to help the students. Tests are just assessments of your performance. Yes they mean a grade, but in the end, what you learn will be the most important to how you do in your academic future.

Ask your school about free tutors. Most schools have them. A better grade next time will get rid of that feeling. Try not to look for ways to be comfortable with failure. Look for ways to overcome it.

I know from my expierance that alot of the time when I think I failed I actually made it and sometimes I even surpised myself and would get a B or something better than a C. Just keep that in the back of your head....
