I'm not really sure, but from what I have heard from some vet techs..they don't make all that much. I was surprised that I (being a groomer) made more than my vet tech friend did per year.
Animal fields usually do not pay very well. And it depends on what area you live in. But most people who take a career in the animal field do it for the love of the animal, not really for the $$$

I totally depends on the area of the country,if it is private practice, or a research facility, shelter, large animal, vet school......the variables are many!!!!

Hourly ranges from $6/hour to over $20 in a busy vet school if you are good and specialized. Most AVERAGE about $13.
Let me say you will not be rich and cannot support yourself and another human on the salary. But that is not why we are doing it!!!!! CLEARLY!!!

And there is a MAJOR difference between a Vet ASSISTANT and A Vet TECH!!!!! Vet assistants go to "classes" if they are lucky and are NOT licensed at all. Vet Tech went to COLLEGE for 2-4 years and ARE licensed!!!!
