It seems to me that most christians dont believe the Bible and what it says, and dont take it literal and dont follow it, so how can they expect an atheist to do the same? why would an atheist believe something most "christians" dont believe. How can you tell an atheist they have to live Godly when some christians are cursing you out at the drive thru at McDonalds?

It doesnt suprise me that there so many atheist and agnostics and why alot of them dont like christians very much.

Surely you know there are many people that claim to be Christian, but aren't. A guy at work told me he was a Christian but didn't believe in Jesus Christ.....hmmm I asked him if he knew where they got the work "Christian" from.
I'm afraid Christianity isn't a pick & choose religion. When people design their own religion and believe whatever they want, it's called new age or humanism....they may still consider themselves Christian.
I don't expect anyone to go by the Bible unless they claim to be a Christian.

Christians unfortunately don't seem to hold a patent
on hypocracy and ignoring the words of Jesus, though there are some who dedicate their lives to prayer and humility, we all know that priests certainy didn't enter holy orders with the best of intentions.
there are some great philosophies that put forth why we should lead a good and moral life, and certainly
Christians haven't proven the existance of God any more than Ed the butcher or gary the mechanic. But if one looks to the eastern philosophies such as zen,
the emphasis is away from sin and more on the order of leading a spiritual life and not questioning God's plan and whether there is a hell or not (in Zen the idea would horrify) the student of zen is a seeker of wisdom and truth, no question goes unanswered and no question has an answer, the idea of war is ananthama, (ever hear of the Buddist crusades or the hindu holy wars or even the Wiccan refformation?) Oddly Christianity stole alot of the Wiccan(pagan) holidays and even some of the folklore ( A superman is coming down to punish all the non-believers and take the good ones to paradise).
The apocolypse was written
in the hope that the Romans would be punished for their treatment of the Jews and the Chrisitians, not for the21 st century (although there is a thing called self-fulfillingf-prophecy) this end of the world stitck has
popped up in every single century cause of one madman's rantings( His wife: Harry! knock it off all- ready youre scaring the children!) The key is to look around, to look into the history books, and not just US history, but other books can open your eyes to the possibilities out there.
God bless, and keep an eye out.

Mister All Knowing
How do you know the McDonald's clerk is a Christian? Do you ask for fries, a Big Mac and a Bible?
On what basis do you say that MOST Christians don't believe the bible?

Next time state your order clearly and the McDonald's clerk won't treat you like a jerk. Besides, most Christians have better jobs than McDonald's so the person serving you is probably an angry atheist.

That is an excellent question.

I happen to be a Christian, and it is disheartening that other who claim to be Christian are just that "Claiming"

Someone asked a question a while ago about what it means to be Christian, and the simple answer is Living your life as an example of what Jesus Christ taught.

There are so many variations of Christianity, but that simple rule applies to all of them, yet you have some christians telling others that they are 100% wrong, and often use disrespectful names towards them. Even towards other Christians who don't happen belong to their particular denomination. All this does is prove that they are not a follower of the words Jesus Christ spoke.

Someone said that it is their belief to preach the word of God and Jesus, as it is a strong part of their religion. Well, preaching is one thing but telling someone they are wrong and their beliefs are stupid does not follow the definition of preaching. ANYONE who must belittle anothers belief in order to convince another person to follow their religion is doing so NOT FROM GOD, but from an EGO standpoint of placing themselves higher than GOD.

Preaching is describing the faith you happen to believe in a way as to give the other person a CLEAR deffinition of the faith you are presenting. Then if that other pesron decides to convert is solely up to them. You have done your part.

As far as religious or non-religious beliefs go, no two people will EVER 100% believe exactly the same thing as the next person, no matter how well versed they happen to be. So respect the other person for their beliefs, as you would like respect back from them.

After all, repect is defined by the following:
to refrain from interfering with

there is no way of letting the world know more about your beliefs than by that of your own actions. If you act the fool, then others will believe that what you believe in is foolish.

Of course this is only my opinion, as yours may differ

I don't follow, I thought the main argument of Atheists is that Christians are fools for following the bible so closely...and how do you know it was a Christian who cussed you out at McDonalds, took the time to ask did you? Athiests, and some Christians, know not to follow the bible because it doesn't make sense, it contradicts itself, so on and so on.

You know, I can't even figure out which side your on...

Well how can you believe in a religion that makes up it's own rules just to suit whatever the people want even though Jesus never said or mentioned about it... i mean come on, how many different bibles are out there?

True, and a shame!
The bible is writen on 3 levels, most can't get past the lowest level.
But with great wisdom it is not only clear, and simple, but literal!

Its kinda a catch 22, you need faith in Christ to have God give you wisdom to understand.

If you don't have wisdom you can not understand!

Good thing you are around, now you can teach us to be better Christians, and not to judge others.
Tell us how can we be a perfect as you!?!

Atheist and agnostics, or whomever! those who hate others, picks on them so no one will notice their own flaws. No one is perfect, and they are no better than any of us.

Do speak freely, within a limit, even freedom of speech has limits and shouldn't be over passed.

You are absolutely right that there are "so many atheists and agnostics" out there, but HOW DO YOU KNOW THE PEOPLE YOU MET AT MCDONALDS WERE CHRISTIANS?

I have no problems with Christians in general. I just don't like to see people believe in something fullheartedly without bothering to examine the other possibilities and tell others they're going to Hell for not agreeing with them.
