The Sony F828 comes with a 28-200mm zoom lens. Unfortunately for you, you have found on of the many limitations of point and shoot cameras. I would recommend you save your money and upgrade to a diigital SLR. You'll have a lot more options available to you for more glass with an SLR.

There doesn't seem to an official teleconverter from Sony. According to DP Review, your camera should have a 58mm lens thread, but when you look at the Sony 1.7x teleconverter with a 58mm thread, it doesn't list the F828 as compatible!

Unless someone else here can give you good advice, try contacting Sony's customer support: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_ViewStatic-Start?page=/static/help/sy_support.isml#product
