im tired of hearing the whole be responsible thing...does anyone out there who promised to be responsible actually do poo patrol after the first month? my family begged and begged for a dog, and we got one, and now my mom does the poo patrol. then my dad decided he wanted a male dog, so now my mom does double. its not that we are unfair, its just how things happen.

but anyway, if you are really interested in getting a dog, then try harder in school. save up your money and pick up your things. that way, if your mom says that you cant handle it, you can show her that A+ test, you can tell her you have money to put towards it, and you can show her how clean your room has been. you can also mention that you can get free dogs from the Humane society...tell her that there are dogs waiting for a home.

if none of this works, talk to your aunt, father, brother, sister, or a family member who can maybe help to convince your mom. it helps if a family member says...hey look how well he/she has been doing, and maybe you could reward their behaviour.

but please do not just go out and get a puppy. it is unfair to the animal who is scared to be in a new environment and then has to be taken back. it is unfair to your mom, and its unfair to you since you'll get attached and then proberbly have to take it back.

good luck...sorry my answer got a little long.

You could maybe start off with a smaller pet, and show her that you are responsible enough to take care of a pet. Dogs are a really big responsibility, and lots of work. Save up some money for all the stuff a dog will need to prove to her that you are serious about a dog. For the first year, you're looking at least $750.00.

Show her. Take something up and prove to her that you can stick with it. Save up money, and talk to her about. Tell her that you really care about it, and it would help you later on in life. Just getting one is not a good idea, your mom might get mad.

Make sure that you really want one. You will have to give it baths, feed it, walk it, brush it, take it to the vet, house train it, train it. A dog is a big responsibility. It is also a 15 or more year commitment. If you really want one, you will be willing to do whatever it takes.

do you have a yard? do you have a part time job to pay for the vet bills? will you remember to feed and walk and play with the animal? volunteer at an animal shelter first so you get to know all that is required in taking care of an animal. those answers would go a long way in convincing me-as a parent

Its more SHOWING then saying to convince her. Belive me anyone can say that i am responsible, i will take care of the pup/dog, i will keep up my grades if i can get a dog, i can stay out of trouble...etc....but SHOWING her that you can be responsible( clean your room, if you have any other pets(even if they arent yours) take care of them, do your homework on time) If your grades aren't as good as your mother would like, bring them up! Do your homework....don't pester her, just show her that you can be responsilble, that you are ready to take on the FULL RESPONSBILITY of the pup/dog. In short, my adivce is to just SHOW her! And I wish your the very best! I did this with my mom and got my very first puppy-that i had to take care of- when I was seven.
