Hi there, i have met a lovely Spanish guy, problem is his English is very limited and so is my Spanish! This makes it hard to communicate at times, particularly as i am back here in England and he is in Spain-even more so over the phone as i cannot read his body language etc! I will write him a letter and would like to tell him that he means a lot to me, and that he is in my thoughts. There is no other man that interests me..... (sorry if this sounds soppy!) any ideas would be gratefully received! Why is it when you find yourself the perfect partner there seems to be a technical hitch?!

Compose your letter, then hit "transpose from english to spanish."

And BOOM, you're done.

This will not only help you with this letter, but also when he responds. You can do spanish to english as well.

Good luck! Love is in the air!!

Well, I had the same problem 5 years ago, and today we are happily married and have two children (3 and 1) who are learning both of our languages, Spanish and English.

What we did was, after had expend some time together in both countries, we kept warm our relationship mostly by emails in English (I took a lot of time writing in a language that wasn't my native, but I was practicing and learning), while at the same time we were both taking local languages courses in the other's language.

Also we phoned each other time to time just to say hi or hear each other voices, but the deeper issues and longer conversations where done by emails or chats (thanks Yahoo!).

My final advise: if you are really interested in each other, you both take time and effort to learn a new language, at the end, you could get involved in something great, and if the relationship doesn't work, at least you will be bilingual.

Oh! and under no circumstances, say no thing in Spanish that somebody who is not a close Spanish-speaker friend tells you to say!

Hey! And about your main question: your letter, write your own words in English, your native language (do not use those translators because you take the risk or sending some stupidity or embarassing mistakes!). If he is really interested, he will take the time to translate it.

I will translate what you just wrote:

Significas muchisimo para mi, siempre estas en mis pensamientos.
No hay otro que me interese...solo tu.

Well i added a couple of things. What i wrote means "You mean a lot to me, you are always in my thoughts. There is no other man that interests me...only you"

Hope your relationship works...Good luck. take care

lol
My wife and I don't share the same mother tongue either. But we use English to communicate. She is trying to learn Spanish and I am trying to learn Norwegian. Mainly because our families are not that good at English.
PLEASE don't use translators. It is probable that you, with your current level, can do it better. And you will learn some in the process!
I am not offering my help in translation because odds are that you will trust more one of the ladies here who have offered their help. But I do wish you good luck!
