There's this minipin that comes into our condo complex and poops all over our lawn and runs around to every door and antagozises all the dogs in the complex and drives them crazy. He has no collar or ID of any kind.

I tried to talk to her owner NICELY but she just gave me attitude. I approached her by saying I'm concerned about her dog getting run over by a car in our complex. He's very small and people often can't see him when they're backing out. She just stared at me and said "ah hun" and nothing else. I asked her to please keep him on a leash so he doesn't get accidentally run over-nothing! He still runs all over the neighborhood. I don't want to call the animal control because it's not the dog's fault. It's the irrisponsible owner's fault. I don't want to run the risk of him gettinng euthanized because of her.

Here's my question... would it be wrong to take him to an no-kill rescue shelter and just tell them that I found him as a stray? That way maybe he'll get a better home.

I'm the VP of the condo board. We (I) sent her a letter stating the same thing about concern for her dog gettin run over. She doesn't do anything about it. I see her dog all over the neighborhood. I know it's wrong to steal him but isn' this better than having him run over or maybe eaten by another dog in the neighborhood?

I've called animal control about other dogs before. All they do is take them away. Last year they took away a stray pit bull and a rotweiler. I asked animal control TO CALL ME if they are in danger of being euthanized. They never called me!!! I called them but was not able to find out what happened to those dogs. I don't want that to happen to this dog. His owner does seem got give a sh*^ about what happens to him.

One last thing... She does not live in our complex. Our complex in nice and clean. She lives a a dumpy slum apartment across the street. We can't even get apartment owner to pick up their trash let alone control their tenants. I'm just running out of choices.

As far as legal issues... how would she prove it's her dog? He has no ID, not even a collar. I very much doubt she registered him with the city. As far as the law is concerened...finders keepers!

People like that do not deserve to have dogs. I would do it. I can only imagine what the dogs life is like at home. Youre doing the dog a favor by taking him off of her hands.

No, you should not take the dog to a No-Kill animal shelter. How would you feel if someone took your animal without your permission simply because they felt you were incapable of looking after it? Now, I will agree with you that something has to get done. The dog's owner is being very irresponsible. You have talked to her on several occasions yet she refuses to do anything about it. Talk to her ," Miss........ I know i've talked to you before regarding (dog's name) I'm really concerned for your dog's well-being. I'm worried that he/she will get run over. I have no choice but to call animal control if you continue to do nothing about it." Try to reassure her that you are not threatening her. If you can , you should get several other people in your complex to be there in the conversation to express their concern. If she still does nothing, report her and try to make sure that dog won't be euthanized. Good luck.

First of all before you do anything else, contact the manager of your complex (if you have one). He or she will be able to handle it. When I lived in an apartment one neighbor let his dog run freely and poop everywhere. Because of this everyone in the building had to pay a fine, regardless of if we had a dog or not. This went on until my husband caught the dog with a blanket and brought it to the apartment manager. It turns out the dog belonged to someone in another building, and because of that person everyone who had a dog, from then on, had to pay an extra $50 a month. I don't know if my experience will help you, but at least try to get the help of someone in charge. If not then maybe your solution to take it to a shelter would be the best. That dog is only going to get hurt.

I would rather see you take the dog to a shelter than have the dog run over! It's obvious that she doesn't care enough about her dog to keep it safe.

Have you tried calling the police on her? In my town, the owners get fined if their dog is out running around not on a leash. Maybe having to pay a few fines will help.

Good luck!

Here's my story its long but it might help.

When we first moved to our house almost 2 yrs ago we found a collarless 4 month old yellow lab puppy living under our house.... we went and asked around to find out where the dog lived and everyone said that it belonged to the drug dealers down the street but that it had been living under our house for about 2 months!

So we kept him for awhile.... he became my dog and we took him with us when we fled from hurricane katrina..... then we kept him through hurricane rita.... now when he went outside he would sometimes run off and we didn't have a fenced in yard at the time so we had to tie him up....... one day the dogs owners come by and say that if we're just gonna keep him tied up to a tree that they want him back..... I go outside and start crying and yelling at the man saying that you know we've had this dog for 7 months we kept him safe through the hurricanes and have fallen in love with him.... the man was angry but gave in.

a month later my mom is walking down the street and see's the mans daughter crying about her dog..... my mom decides to give the doig back... still haven't forgiven her for it... the people thank us and give us a 4 week old lab puppy in return. 8 months later my dog Chance was 8 months old.... I was in WA he died from getting hit by a car 2 days before I got home. I never got to say goodbye to my best friend. a month later the family that we gave the dog back to had to move and couldn't take the dog with them so they left it with the people that they were friends with..... the people almost killed the dog by starving it.. my next door neighboor started feeding it... the people noticed and threatened to call the cops. so our next door neighboor stopped feeding him.... next day the dog gets loose and comes running to our house starving (literally) so we gave him 3 bowls of dog food... its amazing how so litle food can make such a big difference..... I beg to keep the dog but my mom has an aggressive male dog and we couldn't afford to keep him anyway.. So we found a No Kill animal RESCUE and they tok him...... there is a big difference between a rescue and a shelter... even if it is a no kill shelter the dog will be kept in a cage all the time... a rescue is an organization where people foster animals in there homes and the animals have lots of room to run around!!!!!!

I would give the lady a warning and say that you are gonna call the ASPCA or will find a rescue if she doesn't tak more care of her animal. email me the state tht you live in and I will send you the closest recue!! HOPE it Helps

By all the remarks u made it sounds as if u answered ur own question. Your city has laws about unlicensed dogs so do what u have to do. Call animal control, and let them do it the legal way, a min pin will definately find a new home.

I don't think you should take it upon yourself to bring this dog to a rescue shelter. Thats over stepping your bounds. Call animal control, they will come and get the dog, and probably give the owner a fine, and explain why it should be leashed. You are opening yourself up to all kinds of trouble if you "dognap" the dog.

If you know who's dog it is, complain to the condo association or manager. If nothing still happens, call animal control next time the dog is loose. It is not your job to look out for other people's pets. Keep complaining to both until something is done!

You would put yourself in a heap of legal problems if you steal the dog.

Call animal control. The dog is not being cared for; they may or may not remove the dog. If they don't, they'll give her a warning and she might change. If they do, the dog is cute enough that it would be adopted.

Yes, that would be wrong. A better choice would be to call your local police. I bet the woman is violating the leash law in your town.
I am sure an officer could give her a whole slew of information on the dangers of allowing her pet to roam free and I am sure she would be embarrassed to have all the attention. As for the poop...I would collect it and deposit it on her FRONT porch. Good luck.
