Oh yeah.........I am familiar with this problem.

Please do this: Connect your camera to the BACK of the computer's USB port. Front always does not work.

Some cameras are finicky. They will only recognize a straight thru connection. No USB extension cards, no USB multiports or anything that will interfere with communicating with your operating system.

What I mean by this is: your camera and your computer must only be connected by one wire. Nothing should be inbetween and it should be at the back of the computer. Try it.

I betcha it will work.

You did not ask but I will tell you anyway: Go to http://www.picasa.com - It is free, it is good (shall we say fantastic...?!). Even if you have one already, just download this one. It is the best program I ever came across. Picasa is a photo editing software.
