I just found out that my daughter's tumbling teacher has meningitis, but she says it is ok, because it is not contagious. Should I be concerned?

Viral meningitis is not contagious, but bacterial meningitis is. A spinal tap and blood work is performed. Some symptoms are high fever and severe headaches. You can find out much information on medical websites.

she probably means that she has viral meningitis - it means that she is not contagious but that doesn't mean you child can't get it - it means for her to pass it over to your daughter it is more than air transmitted like bacterial meningitis but she definitely could have picked it up the same way the teacher got it - so keep an eye out on your daughter and if she has a stiff neck or is sensitive to light or is vomiting a lot then go right away to the doctor

I wouldn't be, my sister-in-law has a form of meningitis that is not contagious. But I do know that there are a lot of types of meningitis that are. As long as her doctor told her that she is not contagious, then I think you should be fine!

yes you should be concerned call the superentendant or principal of her school and bring this to attention i dont believe someone especially with children should be working with a highly contagious disease like this she may be ok now but who knows how many ppl got exposed to this prior to her being treated?

IT IS CONTAGIOUS. KEEP YOUR CHILD AWAY FROM THE TEACHER FOR A WHILE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY MENINGITIS THAT IS NOT CONTAGIOUS.
