abstinence. Perhaps having an actual teen mother who tells a classroom full of kids what it's like to be a teen parent.

Abstinence "education" doesn't work - look at all the ads that talk about the evils of teen smoking, and teen smoking is actually on the rise in the US.

Real sex education can work, including the proper use and availability of contraceptives, the talk from the teen mom, etc.

Adolescents are going to experiment. Let's make sure they have the proper education and tools to experiment safely.

I think that abstinence should be taught not only by the schools but, also by the parents. Teens today just think of sex as an act. Not as a commitment. It also sounds like they are getting the wrong info about sex. More than half don't even know how a woman gets pregnant. If you give out condoms ( Gross by the way I have never used them) it gives them the right to have sex.

I am teaching my kids abstinence. Sex is not needed before marriage.

Actually, most classrooms I know of only teach abstinence and I think it is a mistake. Yes, remaining abstinent is the ideal, but teens are human. If they do take that chance, I think they should at least know how to protect themselves.

That's a good idea. At my Indiana high school I know many girls who are either pregnant or already a mother. I doubt an abstinence program would have stopped them from having sex but mabye if they had more knowledge about birth control and where and how to obtain it they wouldn't have a baby.

I think a lot of the purpose of sex is lost in sex ed in schools.

Sex is for making babies, not for making people feel good about themselves or for making their partners feel good. The purpose for sex is babies. Sex results in babies. Thats not taught well in school at all.

neither is how and where to get birthcontrol, and how to use is correctly. the pill is one thing, but it does nothing if its not taken correctly, and condoms are a great idea, but that doesnt mean theyre failproof or used right.

Sex is presented as a normal social activity for unmarried people who dont want children. And thats not okay. Sex it for making babies and it always will be.

Education good, condoms good! It wont change much, if they're scared they'll use condoms, but once that fear is lost they wont use them again because nothing happened and if something happened unless its curable they wont go back to condoms. Education would work just like math, you learn it, you know how to use it, but you don't really want to.

Yeah, right as if they will listen. You can talk all you want, but they will do IT anyway. Sex education should be a.o. about the use of condoms and condoms should certainly be available to everyone.
