Thanks to you all for helping with the original question. My Mother has since been discharged from hospital with a prescription for 1 aspirin a day. The clinincians have doubts as to her ever having diabetes. She has never had a heart problem yet was prescribed medication... what action should I take, if any, against the GP?

You should speak with a lawyer. If nothing else you need to file a complaint with the state licensing comission. However, you may be able to go further than that. Please take your case to an attorney.

Many doctors, these days prescribe (not necessarily give you a paper for it but 'have you start a regimine on) a baby aspirin to help keep blood thin. it thickens as we age and become less active (i think). They used to have people take (prescribe) a regular aspirin but recent studies showed that a low dose has the same benefits. Maybe your mom is high risk for heart diesease and thats why.

Well I don't know all the details, but the first thing I would do is research harmful effects of taking asprin when it is unneeded, then you can take them to her doctor and he/she can address those issues and explain why he has her on an aspirin regimen. If you know your facts they are much more likely to be honest. Then if they still are not forth coming with info file a formal complaint.

I don't know what state you are in, but contact the American Medical Association. They can tell you if there have been any other complaints against the doctor and what you should do from there. I would also look into the hospital that continued to treat her for illnesses she never had.
