My local friend gave me these three resorts to choose from. Which one would you choose to stay at for vacation and why?

Hilton Hawai'i'an Village is part of the Heart of Waikiki - - - the bustle the hustle the night life of a a bustling city. TURTLE BAY is way up on the Far North Shore, isolated, lots of activities such as swimming snorkeling horseback riding but night life is limited to the bars & resteraunts within the resort and Waikiki is an hour to ninety minutes away, if there are no traffic snafus. The Ihilani Resort is on the Ewa Plain, on the Leeward Coast again away from Waikiki with no other hotels near by. Once again your night life would be limited to the Hotel though you can get to Waikiki within a half hour to forty five minutes. The Ihilani is the best for Celebrity Watching - - - and it has a very active vibe, and a wonderful Spa. Good Luck - - Peace....

All 3 resorts are located on the most populated island of Oahu, and are on separate ends of the island. Turtle Bay Resort and Ihilani are in the country. Hilton Hawaiian Village is in Waikiki.
Turtle Bay is not only a resort but a collection of long term rentals (timeshares, luxury condo living). There's golf, snokeling, horsebackriding, north shore waves. This is a quiet area, not much entertainment provided by the hotel.
Ihilani is on the west end of the island. They offer spa treatments, fine dining, 4 cool man-made lagoons, wedding chapels, golf course, and paradise cove luau is right next door. This is also a quiet area, and quite a distance from the more active parts of the island.
Hilton Hawaiian Village is located within walking distance of the heart of Waikiki, where there are lots of activities, dining and shopping choices. The property is massive with quite a number of activities besides the norm. You can learn how to surf, paddle a canoe, parasailing, and there is a fireworks show in the evenings, etc.
If this is your first time to Oahu, you may want to be amoungst the hustle and bustle of a touristy city, just to take in as much as you can. If you've been here before, you may prefer to try something different and stay in a quieter place where you can relax and just enjoy the slow pace of country life. You will enjoy your stay which ever resort you chose. Have fun!

Hilton Turtle Bay

Do you mean Hilton Hawaiian Village?

Turtle Bay is a very nice resort, if you want to be a long ways from anything. The Resort it self is nice, certain times of year fun to watch the turtles around the shore.
Very laid back. It is app. 45 miles from Waikiki and Honolulu. Other side of the Island.

Hilton Hawaiian Village is big, right on nice beach, near enough to all of the things in Waikiki, but far enough away to be nice, (like 4 long block).
Hilton is good for all ages and likes. I feel a bit over price for most of the rooms

Ihilani is a rich mans play grounds. Not for everyone..

It depends on what you want to do on your vacation.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village is located in Waikiki. Great for families and couples. Its close to a lot of shopping (in Waikiki and just outside at Ala Moana Shopping Center) and activities. You can easily catch the trolley or The Bus if you opt to forego the rental car. You can also sign up with a lot of tour companies that provide transportation to and from Waikiki (and the Hilton is a very popular pick up/drop off point). Waikiki also has a number of clubs and open bars to go to for the night life and there are a couple of decent evening shows to attend (Magic of Polynesia for one). Hilton Hawaiian Village is great for the active vacation because its central to almost everything - just try to stay off the roads during rush hour.

For a more relaxing vacation, I'd opt for Turtle Bay or Ihilani.

Turtle Bay has a great golf course - they hold PGA tournaments there. Very peaceful and you really don't need to leave the grounds because they pretty much have everything there. For activities, you can go to Koolau Ranch (where they filmed Jurassic Park) for horseback riding, ATV, etc. For surfing, go up north for about 20 min to Pipeline. Turtle Bay also has cabanas for a more reclusive getaway. Dining is not bad; not the same choices you would get in Waikiki but decent (go up to Haleiwa for more options). Definitely need a car.

Ihilani is a great resort to pamper yourself in. Their spa has full amenities including a gym and its connected to the hotel. The rooms are spacious (the marble bathroom is huge) and I believe all the rooms have balconies. Lagoon style beaches with beach toy rentals available. Ihilani also has a luau next door to round out the Hawaiian Vacation. They have a good golf course (on the narrow side, but good) and great restaurants (Roy's). Drawback is that its located way on the west side of the island; need a car and beyond the grounds is mostly residential and industrial. Activities are limited; you'll need to drive anywhere for watersports like jet skiing, etc. But it is closer to Waikiki than Turtle Bay - without traffic, you could get to Waikiki in about 1/2 hour.

Hope that helps! Personally, I like the Ihilani - love those pampering vacations!

Have stayed in and immensely enjoyed both TBH and HHV for the following:
TBH: Golf, fewer tourists but with all the character traits of Waikiki (car is a must), towns of Waimea and Haleiwa are close by. PC Center is 15 minutes away in Laie.
HHV: Nearer to major attractions, museums, shops, restaurants, and night life.
IHILANI: (no comment)
