They shouldn't - towels are usually really colorfast and keep their color, and last forever. My mother had some towels that lasted 17 years, and I took them to college.

That said, I got a set of expensive medium green towels recently from Bed Bath and Beyond and they turned brownish. They were an unusual color to start, for a towel anyway. Now they look awful. So perhaps there are some novel shades out there that are not colorfast. Or perhaps the laundry detergents have been reformulated.
