typically CO2 is used. Look for CLASS C on the fire extinguisher, that means it can be used for electrical fires. Note: CLASS A is for wood, paper, or most anything solid. CLASS B is for liquids like gas and oil.

In an electrical fire the first thing to do is check on your safety. Make sure you are clear of any danger especially from the fault which caused the fire or equipment which can become charged with electrical power. Then request help from your emergency service. Secondly if possible without dangering yourself swich off the power which is supplying the fault that caused the fire. Third, if you have a class C fire extinguisher this can be used following the instructions carefully on the extinguisher.

DO NOT attempt to extinguish the fire with water or similar substances, THIS CAN CAUSE SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH.
