Wow that is a big puppy, I would get a tall baby gate and dog proof a room (w/no light bulbs) with a window he can look out and of course food and water, maybe invest in a good obedience school or read how to books on your type of breed, or maybe get another dog to keep him occupied. A crate as last resort, I mean would you like to be in a cramped crate? Crate seems a bit cruel to me. If it is only for a little while I would only use the crate for last resort only. I would take him w/me as much as possible to socialize him plus some dogs love going out for walks or riding in cars. The more attention your baby gets the less trouble he gets into. After all they are people in fur coats so how would you like to be treated?
Or you could do what my buddy who has Grate Danes does. She has had these big dogs all her life and very educated on them. She lets them stay in her living room w/a tall baby gate and keeps certain things away that they will tear up or hurt themselves with. Also she got a second Great Dane the other dogs sister and she swears by having 2 because they are easier to deal with because they play with each other and stay out of trouble.

Put him in a crate. Make sure the crate is big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in. This sounds like a big puppy. Go to your local pet store (do you have a petsmart or petco in your area?) and ask one of the clerks to show you their crates. Crates are a little expensive (about $70/$100). However, you get the peace of mind that your dog is safe and secure in his crate. After a while, your dog will grow to love his crate. HE will hang out in there on his own. Oh most importantly, make sure he has a comfortable surface to lay on...like an orthopedic pillow. YOu can find those in petsmart/petco as well. Puppies eat EVERYTHING and if you are letting him run around the house chances are he could eat somethign that could possibly kill him. So be a responsible pet owner and get that crate.

Nearly eveybody has said the same thing, but I will toss in my vote as well just to reinforce the message. Crate him while you are away. No chance for him to get into trouble and no reason for you to start resenting your dog. The dogs just lay down and go to sleep, I know this cause I snuck up on my kitchen door once and the dog was just laying quietly in the kennel. All the whining and crying was for my sake. They don't do it the whole time you are away.

Crate! This is great. We have 6month old Great Dane and if he wasn't in crate while not being watched he would get in to everything too. He loves his crate to sleep in. One thing that really works is everytime he goes into crate give him a treat. like at bedtime and when you leave. That way he associated treats with crate. It may take a few days to get him used to it. Just don't let him out when he whines, because he will always whine. good luck.

I would say a crate or if you are generous lol, giving him a certain room that is "his" room such as a spare bedroom or bathroom. Keep his bed in there and have that his space, he needs to sleep in there, and all of this, while you are gone lock him into "his" room so he still is in his **comfort zone** so to speak, plus put something in there of yours like an old shirt, blanket or something like that so he doesnt get lonely and still has a peice of you with him, but make sure its ok if he chews it up. I hope I helped! and good luck!!

I would get a dog crate or make one room a designated "dog room" with plenty of toys and water to keep him/her busy & hydrated. Also, obedience training would help, especially beacuse its a 105 pound puppy.

A crete is about all you can do. Make sure he's been out and had a good exersize before you crate him or you can come home to a big mess or a frustrated dog.Good luck.

Put him in a crate!!! It's not a good thing for your relationship with your dog when you're angry at him every time you come home. If he was in a crate you could be as happy to see him as he is to see you!

105 pound PUPPY????? YIKES! What kind of dog is it? I know most people tell you, including my vet, who just happens to be a good friend of mine, to crate them. My husband and I just got a new 4 pound Maltese, and when we leave the house for more than an hour, he has to go in his crate. We feel bad, but it's safest for the puppy...and our house! lol

Crate him, it keeps them safe and out of harms way. After proper training the dog is very comfortable in their crate. Both of my dogs prefer to be in the crate when we are gone, it simulates a den.
