Take it to a professional tailor, and be prepared to pay for a proper job. Your explanation won't be novel, so just tell them. Tailors are passionate people too. They will need to know how the buttons were ripped off so that they can do a proper repair on button holes, button threads and backing material.

It is likely that the backing material was damaged and will need reinforcing. Sewing the buttons back on without a proper prior inspection is a waste of time and materials.

After the buttons are done, carefully paint over the button threads with clear nail polish, using a fine art brush. The brush that is included in most nail polish bottles are designed for larger near-flat surfaces, and will make a mess of the applying the polish. With the polish protecting the threads, you should find that the button threads abrade slower.

Wash in cold water with detergents designed for cold water use only. Wash with light clothing that have no metals (no bras with hooks, no jeans with buttons or zips, etc). Hang up to dry like a dinner jacket.

If this is an important part of the passionate play for the two of you, then both of you should think up of alternatives. The shirt material will not survive many more rips.

Why the hell did he rip it, he couldn't wait the 5 seconds it takes to remove a shirt??

I think you both are retarded, sew your own shirt if you know how if not the cleaners can do it.

He should

but only if he is willing to try and do a good job, or he could take it to a tailor to have them repair it so it looks good. Shouldn't cost much
