I just created a yahoo group and I am sending out invitations for members to join. Is there a way that members of the group can chat, almost in realtime within the group? Or do members have to leave the group and go into their regular email accounts to respond to messages?

Hm, there used to be a chat area, but I never used it because of the java and that we couldn't all get together at the same time (so it was a boring area)...

Now when I look at my Yahoo!Groups that used to have it, I don't see anything obvious. perhaps that feature was removed in one of the latest Yahoo!Groups redesigns?

Anyhow, depending on how members have their YahooID setup, an icon should show up next to their names if they are online via Y!M, and they could open up separate Yahoo!Messenger chats that way.

You may have better luck by joining one of these groups for Yahoo!Group owners/moderators and asking there:
