I used to get them real bad too. When you feel one coming on, hold ice on it until you just can't stand it. It always works! As far as medicine goes, you will need to talk to your doc. But do try the ice....I couldnt believe how well it works! It stops it in its tracks!

The virus hides in your spinal fluid so it is rarely wiped out or "cured" . If you ever have a spinal tap for another reason and the doctors are aware of this problem, they can get it then. Outbreaks are usually worse when you are under stress or anxious. If you suffer these problems the first line of defense may be an anti-anxiety medication. The second thing is to always have on hand prescription strength ZOVIRIX cream. If you feel that little tingle then rub some in immediately. It always stops them dead if you get to them early. The tingle I'm talking about often feels like a pimple coming on. You will feel it before the snin erupts with the sore. If you don't catch it early and it does erupt, zovirix will get it gone quicker than anything else. Hope this helps. I had the herpes virus that cause this too and this worked for me every time. Then I had to have a spinal tap and they killed the virus while they were there. They will not do a tap just for the virus as the TAP is more dangerous than the virus.

Hey I am SO with you on this!! If you do have insurance go with Valtrex it will save your life!! That is the only thing that works for me.. I have tried EVERYTHING!! I also put rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and hold it on the sore.. it hurts and burns but it dries it out so fast!! use Hpericin L .. Lysin .. eat yogurt! Tiger Balm.. carmex of course.. Zovirax cream ROCKS!! use that too! Campho-phenique® Cold Sore Gel !!! I just combine all this stuff all day long as much as you can and it will help!! Good Luck!

Apply tea tree oil to the sore, it dries it up really quick and it is antibiotic. You can get it fairly inexpensively at any health food store, get it in a higher concentration for best effect. Just try not to lick your lip afterwards.
