it's not good. usually means damage to your eardrums because of any kind of loud noise: music, jack-hammers, jack-as ses.

Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, can be caused by a wide variety of things, including ear infections, exposure to loud sounds (rock concerts, airplanes taking off, explosions), head injuries, jaw problems, excess fluid in the ear, migraines, hearing problems, some medications, etc. It can last anywhere from a few seconds to forever. If there is an underlying cause that can be treated such as an ear infection or TMJ, treating that problem may cure the tinnitus, but often there is nothing you can do about it. Sorry. It can drive a person batty though.

The medical term for that is tinnitus. There can be many reasons, from damage to the ear to taking too much aspirin in one day. Suggest if you suffer with this, that you follow up with your doctor for treatment suggestions.
