On sides of freeway's, roads etc. there are fake trees with some kind of apparatus's attached to them. What?
Some have a blackish colored box in them and some have many antenna/wand like objects. If you live in CA, about to enter the Caldecott Tunnel driving towards SF, 1 artificial tree for example, is on the right hand side, a few hundred feet before entering the tunnel. That particular one has many of the wand like objects in it. Help! Curious one!!

(this was one of my very first questions asked upteen moons ago..but I never got a straight answer!)

Anybody?

These are cell-phone towers disguised as trees. There's another really noticeably fake one on Highway 1 before you get into the Monterey area. The fake trees arguably look better than just having a big blocky antenna tower, but they could at least make them so that they're not perfectly symmetrical.

I live in texas, never seen one of them things. but I have seen a neighbor's real tree with an antenna going all the way passed the top of the tree. Don't know what it is for, they might work for the government or just might be a lightning rod....

Straight answer:

They are cellular transmission stations.

The 'touchstones' for cellphone signals ... they disguise them as trees so as not to mess up the scenery.
