She already counts to 16 perfect. Sings alot of the Alphabet correctly. And also speaks in 5 word sentences, and used the words correctly. She adds the word "the" in her sentences also. Seems to understand as good if not better then my 4 year old. She knows her shapes, colors and has been stacking blocks 6 high since I think 10 months. She was walking at 9 months.

No not at all. It just means you spend time with her and teach her. Keep teaching her. It's not harmful in the least. I started teaching my wife's daughter to read when she was 2 and a half. By the time she was 4 she was reading at a 3rd grade reading level. We just spent a lot of time with her and taught her anything she wanted to know, like how to read. I saw an earlier comment that stated you should slow her down so that school will be a challenge. DO NOT do that! You will only frustrate her. it is the SCHOOL'S JOB to challenge your child, so INSIST they do their job.

Nope, I was doing all that at 13 months. Some kids just comprehend better, that doesn't mean she's too smart. The teachers will remark over it and make a big deal when she goes to school, but just because you're smart doesn't mean you will have ambition or will go far in life. I've got an IQ of 153 and am perfectly happy being a cashier.

As parents, we all like to think our kids are geniuses. And that's not a bad thing. It's great to be proud of your kids and encourage and enrich them, so long as you don't get too focused on comparing how your kid does with how other kids do. (okay, in the privacy of your marriage you and your husband are free to gloat over how brilliant you think your kid is, but you should never rub it in anyone else's face).

I have a 26 month old who was also doing all of those things and more, except the walking. But there is absolutely no correlation between early walking and intelligence. The age at which a baby walks is largely determined by genetics. If one or both parents were early walkers, then the children are more likely to be early walkers.

I don't think there is ever a "too smart". The word "too" makes it seem as if there should be a cut off point. My child was counting to 40 before 23 months and was making up her knock knock jokes that were actually funny. I think, you should ask yourself the real question: "Do you think my child is a genius?" You can always take them to a child psychologist to get the real answer and then plan accordingly. And you musn't compare your children. Children's levels and abilities will always differ.

I think it is wonderful your daughter is so smart. It probably has a lot to do with the parenting you do but also how much your 4 year old talks around the younger. TV shows can encourage this too.. I know Barney has a lot of numbers colors etc in his show

And this is bad how . . . ?

Your 23 month old may be too smart for her age group, but she can never be too smart. Congratulations on raising such fine babies! Our own Sarah is six months old and has got crawling, sitting up, rising from a seated position, and some climbing down already! (75th percentile for her age)

Our job as the parents is to provide that stimulating environment for them to grow at their own pace. The fact that your daughter's growing mentally faster is little cause for concern, it's just going to put you more on your toes!

No, she doesn't sound "too smart"....my son was doing all of those things at the same age. Just be thankful that you have such an intelligent child, and make sure to offer all sorts of enrichment activities to help her be even smarter! (I'm lucky, living in the Washington D.C. area with the Smithsonian musuems just a 20-minute train ride away...)

I have a 5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. My two year old learns so much from my 5 year old it's amazing - she is very close to being at his level! Makes me wonder how fast my 11 month old son will be - it's kinda scarry!

Children are always learning!

My daughter who is going to be 2 on Sunday can also do these things, and loves to sing also. Its normal for a second child to move faster then a first child. They have someone to keep up with.
