You're right. People do change their minds, for any number of reasons. Sometimes it's for gain, political or otherwise, and sometimes it's because the information or situation surrounding an issue has changed, requiring reassessment of the issue.
The world is an a constant state of flux. I personally don't want a leader who makes up his or her mind and then refuses to consider new information just because it makes all or part of their previously stated opinion incorrect. It's certainly possible to be too indecisive, but it's also possible to be too inflexible. I think good leaders know how to walk that line.
Politicians must demonstrate that ability to be able to be considered leader material, but then also can be demonized for making any changes to their stated views. It's up to us voters to decide if their changing opinions reflect changing information, or sucking up for votes.

You failed to consider History. Democrats have a long history of supporting the working class people, unions. Republicans have a long history of supporting the wealthy and the Corporations. That is fact not feelings about either party. Read History and you will find in History a lesson that is truth. I agree that children would not know the History of each Party but if you vote you are obligated to be well informed on issues before you vote. Issues change, I agree. Now we are told by one party the issue is that if we don't stay in Iraq and fight and die in there war then the evil "terrorist" will come to the USA and we will fight them here. This is a bare face lie. No terrorist on Earth would dare face even the average American in a fare fight. Terrorist do the dirty work behind your back. Americans learned that lesson in Nam. Or did we? We lost 58,000 in Nam before our young people and our churches ended that war.

Because blind loyalty to a party, and blind opposition to the 'other' party, makes it easier for people to choose sides.
If they just follow the party line blindly, they never have to look at the issues, or think about making informed choices.
Think independently. Vote your conscience.
Or if that requires too much thought, trust us and vote Libertarian.

I call it "which ever way the wind blows syndrome." I stand by what I have always said, that it does not matter who or which party is in control, nothing will change.
