That to stop living is the best possible choice for all conscious creatures? Should you keep it a secret or try to tell people?

Rather than argue, please take it for granted that such a thing may exist, and that you discovered it.

This isn't about unhappiness or depression. God doesn't factor in, though. God's not real, and neither is Zeus.

Seeing as how the first primary drive of life is TO survive even if you told others you would not be believed and most likely medicated into a nice quite, passive comma so that you would not disturb all the other nice people on the planet.

A very interesting question. It's kind of like the movie Armageddon, when NASA knows that the Earth is really close to being smashed to bits by a huge astroid. Should they tell people so they can be aware that the end is coming? Or keep it a secret and keep the inevitable looting and such down?
I would say keep it a secret, ignorance is bliss. Maybe share it with a select few who could potentially solve the problem (assuming it could be solved), but don't tell the masses.

Hey - I'm not sure what you've discovered but you said a little while ago that God's not real - so don't use that as a factor. You sound convinced that you've found something - So, suppose that somehow you're wrong - we all make mistakes about things - but suppose that God is real and if He's real then suppose that their is a real enemy of your soul - That enemy would want to whisper someting to you, convince you that it's real - especially if it means you taking your life without knowing God. Then the enemy's got you. If God is real and loves you and wants the best for you then that would be something to look into.

I agree somewhat with Dawn. If you do not believe in God, your question has little meaning. But, let's assume you ask this question of someone who does. The response should be "tell everyone". Life is given to us as a gift, and like it or not, not ours to throw away. Having said that, there is no greater gift than to lay down your life for your friend. If your discovery seems to imply that we should all quit living, it goes against the Church's teaching and either your interpretation of your discovery is flawed, or we are have reached the "Last Day".

Assuming I found some philosophy or pending event that would make "quitting living" a viable option, I would cannot say right off what I would do. Since I am a Christian (and yes, it does matter, as being a Christian is the basis for my worldview and the decisions in my life), I would first compare what I learned to the measure of Absolute Truth that I have available to me, namely the Bible. If it did not pass muster with what the Bible says, I would disregard it altogether. If it did pass, then I would consult the Bible as to the course of action concerning ending my existence. Since the Bible speaks rather plainly that murder, including of oneself, is wrong, then I could not do it. Please note I did not say "would not", because being a human being, I have weaknesses and given enough physical pain I could see myself reaching a point where I would try to end it all, Even though it is wrong.

Without knowing exactly what this "something" is, no recommendation can be made as to whether people should be told, how they should be told, whether they would listen to any of these efforts, etc., etc. To advise what one should do, you have to at least be aware of what they could do.
We should be able to flap our arms and fly, we may say, but since we cannot, it's useless to give such advice.

How could this be the best choice - when you aren't living, it's not like you've gone somewhere else!
Except maybe in the ground, a box, an urn.
Lose the fairytales - you'll be better off.

When you go to a birthday party and give someone a gift,do you then take it away after its unwrapped? No you do not....you watch the person use the gift, you feel good if they enjoy it and kinda sad if its not what they wanted. You put all your heart into picking out that gift and no greater gift will ever be given. In the same way our lives are a precious gift from God...He wants us to live them out completely, using our talents and contributing to the world....it is not life that is the danger, its the way people choose to live it.

If you discovered something that proved it was better not to exist, then by sharing it with the world you would be making them better, and so you should share it.

yes, humans are a great parasite that are ruining this planet, the world would be a much better place without humans, but I don't feel like committing suicide.
