Pros? Cons? Is it worth the money?

I was on NutriSystem for about three months several years ago. I did lose 20lbs on it. I really enjoyed it because it was convenient for me at the time. The whole reason I quit was because I could no longer afford it. And since I did the program where I was on their food 7 days a week, I didn't really know how to cope with going off their food so I gained all the weight back and more. I would have stayed on it longer if I could have afforded it, but rent and heat was more important to me at the time.

I did the NutriSystem thing about 15 years ago. I followed it very strictly, didn't eat one speck more than what the diet called for. They tell you to walk a mile a day; I walked three miles a day and roller-skated another couple of miles in the evening. By the end of the first month I'd lost 30 pounds and thought I looked great. Someone took a photo of me then and when I saw it later I thought it look like I'd just escaped from Auschwitz -- haggard, gaunt, scrawny.

My friend Anne did it at the same time. She didn't like any of their "protein" offerings (either pudding made with skim milk, or "scrambled eggs" made of eggwhites with yellow food coloring) so she skipped that part, and as a result her fingernails got soft and about a third of her hair fell out.

It really is a minimal, low-calorie, low-fat diet. You can lose weight with it, but you'll be terribly hungry all the time. I wouldn't do it again. Lost 30# last year with Weight Watchers -- it took me four months, was easy, and the weight's stayed off. That's a much better way to go, IMHO.

Yes, I lost 55lbs. in approx. 3mos. back in 1988. The food was edible but not great. Although it was more expensive back then and they required you to go weigh in and be monitored by their "white coat" people. Today I understand that you are on your own...receiving the meals via mail. So, I guess the PROS would be...convienence (not having to weigh food or count calories) and price (if you average it out per meal), and now they have payment options. The CONS...having to "hydrate" some of the food, the portions are small and usually you are still hungry, and unfortunately MOST everyone gains the weight plus some more shortly after they reach their goal and go back to their own food. So I guess it's always about discipline...how bad do you want the weight off and how willing are you to change your eating habits? It's a quick fix...like some other diets, but the end result is totally you're call. Hope this helps!

I have....and then gained all the weight back like so many others. Live and learn....after countless diets, I learned...Diets do not work because at the end of the day, you still have to eat every day and cannot spend the rest of your life on a diet, it is impossible !!!!!!!
I have lost 62 pounds and kept the weight off now for 5 years without even thinking about it. How did I do it ? Slowly but surely, I changed my eating habits, period. Smaller quantities, lots of fruit & veggies, drink water and exercice.....
Do yourself a big favor, don't go for a quick fix, in a long run, it doesn't work ......Good luck!

A girlfriend of mine lost about 20 lbs (maybe more?) in a month on it but she didn't continue with it after that. If you want to talk to her about it her email is fasttalknangel@yahoo.com her name is Kelly. Just tell her JB said you could email her about it. :)
