It's worth the 50 bucks to find out if the dog is OK. Right? I don't think it is wasted money but if the doc says he is OK after a 5 minute exam ask him/her to consider a reduced charge. Good Luck.

There's no such thing as a "for sure" answer unless the person answering is a vet and has seen the dog. But if you want some reasonably good guesses, here goes:

Could it be a case of kennel cough? That sounds like one of the symptoms -- a dry, unproductive cough.

Also, a pet can swallow a pin or needle, and it will be deep enough down in the throat that it doesn't show up on a visual exam. It happened to my sis in law's cat, and the needle only appeared on the X-ray.

My best guess is still the kennel cough, though. And with no more information than I have to work with, that's all it is -- just a guess.

If you're not happy with the answer your vet is giving you, please shell out the money and get a second opinion. Your puppy's life and health is worth it, isn't it?

I would check for obstructions in her throat. Maybe she swallowed something and is trying to cough it up. Maybe she has a hairball? Try giving her water and making sure she is eating well and if it keeps up THEN take her to the vet, BUT if she does start sleeping more or being less active and not drinking/eating then I would DEFINATELY take her to the vet. It may not be serious but keep a close eye on her. Make sure she isnt eating anything she shouldnt (like rocks, carpet, stuff of that matter) and basically moniter her everymove. Hope i helped some!

OH and if money is the issue just call the vet and ask his opinion maybe he/she can let you know what to look for, and/or give you an idea of what to do. Good luck and i hope all goes well!!

Spending $50 is not a waste to find out everything is ok. Peace of mind is worth that! she could have eaten something she can't get out. I've never seen a dog gag from a cold. Plastic wrap would be something she could have eaten and not get back up. P l e ase....take her in and know for sure! I know it's hard when you are short on money, but your dog is more important than money!! If you are that broke maybe you should think about giving your dog up til you have the finances to have one and it not be a burden. Dogs have feelings and are so much like us she does not deserve to suffer.

Has she chewed or eaten anything that could have gotten stuck? If you're giving her rawhides or chew toys, such as Nylabones, that could cause this to happen. Is she eating ok?

Taking your dog to the vet when it is sick or gagging is NOT a waste of money. Perhaps take her to a different vet for a second opinion.

Taking the dog to the vet is never a waste of money. She could have something stuck in the roof of her mouth or in her throat. It could be any number of things going in with her, the vet is the only one that can tell you for sure. Go today, that doggie could be suffering a lot and you wouldn't know it. They don't complain much.

Could be kennel cough, it sounds awful. Both of my dogs had it. They sound like they are choking or trying to clear their throat. Usually kennel cough has to runs its course, my vet told me they do not do anything for it unless the dog has difficulty breathing. I think just about every dog in our area got it and it was the same all the way around.

Could be kennel cough, but you need a professional to tell you for sure. It's well worth the $50 to find out for sure.

One things for sure,$50 is a small price to pay for your puppies life!!!!!! No-one on here can tell you for SURE what is wrong with your pup. Only a qualified vet can do that. So to be SURE why not take puppy along, you may be glad you did.!!!!!!

prob she has eaten something nastey and is trying to get rid of it, but it simply won't happen because she is for the most part just fine. My cat does this sometimes, just rub her belly for awhile and give her something soothing to eat, juch as a peice of bread if she wants it. If that doesn't help, then something more serious is going on, and $50 wouldn't go to waste.
