Really depends on the feel of the mood and what you have on your walls etc.... Do you have wainscotting on the walls? Wallpaper? Paint and pictures? How big are the windows? How much light are you trying to block? What mood are you trying to create? What kind of furniture do you have in your'e dining room? Floor covering? Without knowing these things I would suggest a nice wooded blind and a curtain treatment of some sort...a nice swag....not a boxy, frilly valance! Go to your local library and take out some home decor magazines or books.....there will tons of ideas....there are so many factors that contribute to making a room look amazing....if you havent painted yet....Red is amazing for a dining room...creates a good appetite...and is so warm and romantic even if you only paint one accent wall. Not fire engine red but a nice warm deep red... Good luck whatever you decide!!

Curtains would be my pick for a dining room because of the formal feel they can bring to a room. A more casual dining room may call for blinds as they can be used for simplicity and functionality. Blinds make it easier to control the amount of light that enters the room so that may be a deciding factor. If the focus is on the dining room consider curtains, matching the colors and style will make everyone in the room feel more comfortable and your dining experiance more enjoyable. Curtains make it easier to bring the entire room together.

I would put lovely sheer curtains , there is no norm anymore, just do your thing and make it pretty. If people will peep in then get blinds but I am a curtain person

If I were you I would put up nice curtains. I am a romantic so its important to me to be alittle more personal, and fancy to put up curtains. You can let in a lot of good light, but when it comes to night time and you are having, lets say a candle lit dinner, the curtains will definitely be better.

Curtains, traditionally, are more formal. You can have blinds in a less formal area.I would go with a Bishop tuck curtain and nice draw backs on each side with a passive cell shade.

Norm for what era?
I have shades w/ curtains, but my house was built in the '20's.
Blinds were popular in the '50's & again currently. Just depends on what look you are going for.

Actually if you look at decor magazines curtains are no longer the style. It seems more and more are going towards fancy blinds. I would have to choose blinds
