All I have to say is it could get worse as time goes on. so please consider that.
You may have the symptoms but that don't mean you really have Bipolar, you could have something related to it, or just depression. if you don't want a doc then how about a counselor?

There are a couple of ways to find out Mr. Hyde. First off you are 20... so naturally you are attention starved and don't really matter in the big scheme of things. So let me explain what your mind is doing. You are creating an alter ego, or another person in your mind that you can run to when the little emo side of you can't take it anymore (ie: Dr. Jeckyll). This other ego will bear all your burdens and will become cold and hard towards the world with time (ie: Mr. Hyde). Now, these two persona should naturally fuse together in your mind, as you start maturing and becoming an auctual member of society. But if they don't at least you have another person inside you to blame all the people you murdered on. Good luck

Seriously, you need to see a doctor, and a good, competent one. Last year my fiance was misdiagnosed as bipolar, and the medicine they put him on might have caused permenant brain damage. If you are bipolar, and don't see a doctor, your life will become even more out of control than you think it already is...read any discription of any mental illness, and I'll bet you can find that you can sound like you have all of them. Been there, done that. But only a doctor will know for sure, and there is no shame in seeking help.

You don't describe why you feel like you have bipolar illness. Do you have periods where you are manic - spend out of control, have sex with anybody, feel like you are in charge of the world, and do your friends tell you its like you are high all the time? When you get 'down' do you go to deep depression? Do you feel like you can't move and the world is out to get you etc?
U are at an age where life is confusing. A variety of moods is acceptable in a stressful, confusing life. But if you feel that your life is harmed by the moods you have then you need to seek help. If you wont' go to a doctor then go to a school counselor, or to social worker, or preacher, or whomever you trust.
I am not so worried about you getting the right diagnosis, but about getting help with the confusing issues in your life.
Bipolar disease does need medication. But that is not in front of you right now. Get help with what is happening in your life and then go from there.
Best wishes.

Ok...coming from someone who is bipolar...CONSIDER SEEING A DOCTOR. Nobody WANTS to see a doctor, especially for something like this, but it is the only way you will get better! Bipolar is an inheritated trait...like blue eyes or brown hair. It is a medical condition, and if you truly have it you need to be on a mood stabilizer. I was TOTALLY against being on drugs, but since I have been I see such a difference in my life. If you do not treat bipolor it can get much much worse, so please think about it :) I went around undiagnosed and untreated for years until I crashed and had an absolute breakdown. It's not worth that! You can just see your regular family doctor to begin with. Hang in there!!

Bipolar can go on untreated(I know of a couple of people). Life is quite difficult as it once was for me. You weren't very specific about what symptoms of bipolar you think you have. There are extreme mood swings, very high highs followed by darker lows, sometimes racing thoughts, self-destructive behaviours, psychotic features can be involved and so much more. Usually we don't just figure out we're bipolar, diagnois comes after periods of mental collapes. It can be genetic, is anyone close to you, bipolar? Ask and research.

Hi Janice. Thank you for being so honest with your question. If you are discovering that your life seems to have times when you are very happy and hopeful, and then you feel drawn into places of deep sadness or pain, you may very well be a bi-polar person. If you are, please do not be scared. Some of our most brilliant and creative people are bi-polar. The only thing that may separate them from you is that they got the medication they need to balance the chemicals in their brain so they could use their talent and not be victimized by their own emotions. Please believe me, medication can and will make your life a thousand times better. It will not change you. It will only free you to be who you really are, a wonderful person. I know you will not want me to say this (because one of the symptoms of the bi-polar person is the resistance to help) but you must go and see a goo qualified therapist. He or she can help you get your diagnosis confirmed and get you the medicine that you need to start enjoying your life.

Well, I suggest going to
http://everydayhealth.com/emotional-health/bipolar/index.aspx?utm_source=overture&utm_medium=ppc
I am bi-polar, have been since late teens. ( I'm 52 ) so I know what I am talking about. There is enough information on the site I gave you, that if you consider it carefully, you may change your opinion about seeing a doctor. If you ARE bi-polar, you cannot just wish it away, and you can't do it alone. As far as anyone knows, there is no 'cure' but there are most assuridly ways to control it to a managable level, and lead a happier life. Bipolar can be a real tough thing to deal with on your own.
Read up on the various meds and what they do.

Speaking from experience if you read the symptoms of any disease enough , you tend to mimic those symptoms. As far as being a confusing part of your life---you are 20 years old, that is normal for the age. Most people with mental illness of any kind, don't seem to recognize themselves as being sick. That is why it takes a professional to diagnosis them. If you truly think that you are bi-polar then you should get help, and if you are bi-polar it will show so much that your family and friends will not only request that you get help, they will get so fed up with your behavior that they will demand it.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar about 1 month ago. I take medication everday. And it helps my mood swings alot. Even if you don't want to see the doctor, you should honestly try to make yourself go. This disorder can cause alot of trauma and drama in your life! Its serious! And you need medicine to control it if you have the disorder!
