Many American's realized now that the war in Iraq but not Afghanistan was a mistake, no WMD, no big welcome and a much worst off country than when we first came in. I've heard of some Iraqis wishing for the more peaceful days when Saddam was still in power. Now no one outside of Iraq likes Saddam but when faced with a foreign occupation or a local dictator, some might just vote for him.

Regardless, America made a mistake in entering Iraq. Now most Republican's say we must stay the course and leaving Iraq unfinished would be bad for everyone. That is up to debate. What should NOT be up for debate is who should be punished for this grave error in judgement? Should our troops pay for invading Iraq or do you this the Bush administration should be fined, jailed or impeach for bringing where we don't belong?

Sorry Cory, I don't agree with you here. When someone commits a crime, they should be punish. I understand where you're coming from and wished there was a way to just solve the problem but if you don't punish those who did wrong, what's to stop the next guy from doing the same. Will America uphold justice or let the rich and powerful be free to do whatever they want with no consequences?

People when I say the troops paying I meant with their lives in an unjust cause. I figure the two choice I gave, the answer would be simple, I guess it wasn't.

Republicans love to talk about personal responsibility, but when the leader of their party starts a war on false pretenses that kills tens of thousands of men, women, and children, they find ways to make excuses.

The democrats did not declare war on Iraq; nor did congress as a whole. Congress simply make the mistake of trusting Bush with the authority to make the call and go to war. The responsibility for tens of thousands of lost lives and tens of thousands more maimed people lies completely on George Bush. A president might receive faulty intelligence, but it is his job to CONFIRM the intelligence or to realize that it could be wrong and thus not start a war.

Ok, whether or not one believes that the war against terrorism is right or wrong is one debate. To ask if the troops, who put their lives on the line every second of everyday, should pay for invading Iraq is the most ignorant and irresponsible question one can ask! These men and women did not just get together and decide to invade Iraq. Orders come from the top, and it is their duty to follow those orders, right or wrong. You should be proud and honored that these men and women will do whatever it takes to ensure that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have.

So to answer your question, nobody should pay for Iraq. Don't the Iraqi's have the right to enjoy the same freedoms that we take for granted? That is what is trying to be accomplished right now, a free and secure Iraq. To leave now only gaurentees civil war and the rise of another Saddam.

How is Iraq worse off now than it was? Saddam killed many of his own people while he was in power. It was only peaceful because the Iraqi people were being oppressed. By the way the did find 8 thousand gallons of anthrax in barrels underground. The insurgency is being caused by a group of mostly non-Iraqi terrorist not the general puplic.

If you do think it was a mistake, you should never blame it on the troops. That is just plain stupid. They are just following orders and shouldn't be looked down upon like in Vietnam. Just because you don't support the actions of the government doesn't mean you can take it out on the troops. You can blame bad intelligence if you want to or the administration. Thebest way you can stop things like this that you don't agree with is to VOTE, not sit there and whine. Your vote does count.

I am still not convinced that invading Iraq was an error in judgment. The execution of the occupation is most likely the error and you are always going to get that when civilians run the military.

But I do agree with another user, blame assessment is somewhat ludicrous at this point. British intelligence stands beside its report. Most people on both sides of the aisle gave the nod to go to Iraq. We need to assess what we did well and what we did poorly and resolve that if we have to do this again, we will do it better.

First, people need to stop treating the initial invasion and the continued occupation the same. They are not.

The destruction of Saddam's government, and deposing him, were one project. That's done. "Mission Accomplished". That has nothing to do with what we did afterwards, or how long we continue staying how that he's gone.

Who is to blame for the initial invasion? Everybody. Bush. Cheney. Rumsfeld. Powell. The CIA. The House. The Senate. And the American people.

Will blaming anyone help anything? No. I just keeps us trapped arguing about the past, which prevents us from moving forward.

We can't change the past. We can't undo the fact that we went there. The only thing we can do is either make intelligent choices about what we do going forward, or choose to live in the past and get left behind.

We need to not blame anybody. We need to keep our word and rebuild Iraq. Democrats are not jokes. They are for the people, and farmers. I know. I grew up in a farmer family. Tell me what Republicans did to help us? Don't mention Lincoln or Eisenhower.

Getting back on the subject: Nobody should be punished, nor should anybody be tried. It was an error. Learn by mistakes.

You didn't mention that the Democrats, who were presented with the same faulty intelligence as the President, supported an Iraq invasion when said faulty intelligence was believed to be true by everyone. Of course, the Dems immediately changed colors once word got out about the supposedly false information.

1)follow the chain of command and who ever gave the command to go to war needs to go to butt rape me in the *** jail. 2) the only reason the war is not over is because bush can not admit he is wrong, and his pride will kill thousands more. (thats why pride is one of the seven deadly sins) the bush admistratioon will stay in iraq and let their sucessors figure out how to undo this mess.

Rumsfeld has recieved a vote of no confidence from the democrats (FINALLY, the democrats are a joke). he should be the first in line to recieve punishment, but the republicans are saying his position is not in jeapordy whatsoever... what message does that send?

it says the united states can declare wars on whomever they want, without justification and without ramifications... NICE
