Do you dislike/like paying gratuity in general? Why or why not?

The only thing that bothers me about it, is that the very reason restaurants pay their staff sh*t is because it is expected that they will bring in $$$ in tips. We are subsidizing the waiter/waitress' salary FOR the restaurant. Having said that, I realize that is just the way it is, and I do tip quite generously for good service.

I do not dislike tipping a waiter or waitress, if they are prompt and kind, but what I dislike is added the gratuity to the ticket, just because of how many people are at the table and on the check, I feel it's up to the customer on how much the customer leaves as a tip, you can get a lousey waiter or waitress, that don't even deserve the amount that was added to the gratuity

I like the fact that you have a say in the service you have received.
Nowadays, this is the only true way that money is EARNED.

1/2 the people in offices screw off or mind other peoples business, but waitresses have to be nice and friendly and organized ALL THE TIME. or they don't get the tips...
If we all lived on tips, the world would be much much more efficient.
I used to be a waitress. but I was really bad at it.

I never mind acknowledging good, attentive service and I tip really well. When the service is bad - wrong orders, poorly prepared food, and I have to wait for the damn check to escape, I get pissed and the way I tip reflects the whole experience.
There is nothing better or worse than a waitress/waiter that knows/doesn't know what they are doing.

I think restaurants should pay their employees a fair wage so that waiters wouldn't have to rely on tips for survival. However, until that happens I leave generous tips. My daughter was once a waitress and she had to pay taxes on a certain amount of tips whether she actually received them or not.

I don't mind leaving a tip - only if the service is good. I don't feel that it is necessary to tip someone just because they get paid at or below minimum wage. If a waitor/waitress depends on tips - then the service provided should reflect on that. I don't think you should have to tip - bad or good service- just because! Then it's pointless. Why should bad service be rewarded with tips. It's not encouraging that person to be a better server.

I love to tip if the waiter/waitress is attentive to our needs. I think it is very important to tip these people, they usually only get paid 2.50 an hour, so the tip is very important.
But I have been known to make it known why there will be only a small tip, or none.

you wouldn't believe how many restaurants pay well over minimum wage and...unknown to the customers who feel sorry for them, people tip well above the percentage accustomed...I still tip but I hate waitress/waiters, they are kind of annoying with the whole "how is everything going" every 5 minutes and they always seem to catch me with food in my mouth, do they plan that because they don't want you to ask for something? If so Bravo! Well planned...either way they could just give me my food and leave me alone..if I need something I'll get it.

I don't mind tipping a waiter/waitress because they wait on you for up to an hour. BUT, people like bartenders, who usually just open up a bottle of beer for you, AND THEN EXPECT A TIP, really annoy me.

I personally like it, I don't mind paying for good service and I like that there is incentive to work hard. I notice that I get better service than others in places that I frequent, I also notice that I tip well. That said, I don't like that many people don't tip well since it removes incentive and probably makes waitstaff less enthusiastic. But even worse I don't like poor service and the expectation of a good tp.
