It's about 3/4 of the way down my back and I'm sick of people (not coworkers btw) telling me to cut it.

Long hair (past the shoulders) on women over 40 is usually a sign she is nutty.

It's not so much that long hair is unprofessional, it's just that shorter hair has become more associated with being modern and there for "up to date" on things. Your hair can be professional and long, but you need to make sure that it is kept neat. Keeping it cut will help it grow faster and will make it look groomed and stylish, as apposed to just being long and hanging there. Make sure to fix it... everyday, and people will start complementing you, instead of telling you to cut it off. Try a side-swept, shorter bang and scrunch the rest. You can always do a french twist in the back, too.. for those days that you might have a meeting with the big boss, it just gives the impression of belonging in an office.

I dont think it is unprofessional, it is just that men think long hair is sexy so women have always tried to subdue that look at work.
Try wearing it up in the day time and see if that appeases them, In the end it is you that has to be happy with your hair and as long as your boss isnt complaining, ignore your co-workers.

It's all simply a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys such as it. And i prefer a guy with short hair over a person with long hair because long tresses tends to make guys look also girly.

It just gets in the way sometimes, but don't cut it. Long hair is very nice, and the people who are telling you to cut it are wrong and jealous.

It depends on your job and how formal the place where you work is. If it's casual, long hair is okay if you can keep it tidy, not flying all over the place. If you have to dress up more, put your hair up in a chigon. You can't get much more professional than that.

i don't think its unprofessional if you keep up with it... most of the times though long hair is always full of split ends and in need of some work...

I'm a high ranking nurse (RN)
and my hair is down half way of my back and i don't get asked to cut it,
just pull it back and a pony tail.
and that's it.
i get lots of people saying it is beautiful and i love my long hair.

Huh? Who says it is unprofessional? I would just tell them to keep their opinions to themselves. What, they want you to look like a man? Tell them to pi ss off.

Who told you it's unprofessional! Don't listen to nayone else's opinion of how you should wear our hair. Maybe you should tell them that voicing one's opinion on another's hairstyle is "unprofessional". They can screw themselves!
