When Datsun( now Nissan) first introduced autos to the US, they had no concept of names that would appeal to the US car buyers
and due to the popularity of the movie My Fair Lady, they were going to call the "z" cars Fair Ladies. (I'm not kidding) One of their marketing exec's, having spent considerable time in California suggested they not do that, and convinced them to use the manufacturing plant number "240Z". And that's where the "Z" comes from. You can look it up.

I believe the "Z" simply designates it as the type of model within the Nissan lineup. There is no "hidden meaning".

nothing. they add the letters because fools buy into it thinking that they will uncover some real meaning. every time you make a product, you do something to differentiate it so it SELLS. this is how those car makers can make more money. by throwing in a gimmick that people like.
