it could be the typical patriarchial thing, cats are considered feminine, dogs masculine, and most all western religions had to put down the female in every way possible since the "pagan" earth based religions worshipped the goddess and considered females equal if not superior to males. so this is just another part of their effort to put down females in every way possible.
