My daughter and son in law ask me to be present at the birth, it should have been a home birth but due to problems my daughter was taken to hosital. It was strange because the midwives called me mum right up until baby was born then they changed to calling me Nanny. Best experience I'v ever had

When my second grandchild was born 18 years ago, I had the opportunity to be in the delivery room. I wish I had been there for all of my grandchildren. Watching them come into the world was as rewarding if not more so than having my own children. I saw a new extension of my own life being born. It was wonderful and I'd do it again.

I had the pleasure of being at the birth of one of my grandchildren and as a man I though it was the best thing that I could have been involved in. On that same note, she and her husband were told for the whole 9 months that it was going to be a girl. So when the baby was coming out all I can hear my son-in-law say is "she has a penis."!!!!! I would not of missed that for the world.
Go in the room, you will not regret it, that is what grandparents do.

My mum was with me twice from my four kids births and she was really emotional but in a good way and she is not a woman who shows alot of emotion. Her exact words were "to be at a birth is an amazing experience so long as you are not the one doing the pushing and shoving."

My mum is my best friend and was at my second birth. I am so glad she was there as she gave me so much encouragement and strength and I must admit thinking back to that day it was the most enjoyable day of my life. It was so happy and having my mum there made it so much more special and relaxed, I think I wanted to make her proud. My husband was looking after our 3 year old as I asked him to as I wanted my mum there, I felt very emotional that day and needed my mum.

I would definitely have my mum there if I have a third baby and I would recommend every woman has her mum there. I know my husband would never be able to make me feel as relaxed that day as my mum did.

The saying really is true, mum really does know best!

My mum was NOT supposed to have been there, but half way into my labour she ended up by my side (it was all to do with one of the midwives examining me wrongly and telling my husband I was close to giving birth so my hubby called my mum in just to briefly see me and ended up being there for another few hours!). Anyway, I think she was a bit traumatised although glad that she was there. It was hard for her to see me in pain I think.

My mother was at my our daughters birth. I know she was really nervous, upset and excited the whole time. She was really upset when I got the epidural. She had heard so many bad things about it that she was convinced that I was going to be paralyzed. She was very excited to actually see my daughter being born, and then being one of the first to hold her. She lives far away this time, so she will not be able to make it.

My mom was there for both of my oldest son and oldest daughter's births, both are 7 and 6 years old now, and she was happy about it and so was I. These will probabbly be her only grandchildren, and I'm glad she was able to share that experience with me!

my mum was present for the births of both my children. being my mum she instinctively knew what i needed without being asked, whether it was my brow mopped, a drink of water, or some words of encouragement. hope in the future that my daughter will want me present at the birth of my grandchildren.
