shes been to the vets with the runs and sickness. I was told to try her with chicken and rice to soothe her belly. i made her the chicken and rice, and like her normal dog food she is refusing to eat it. however my daughter had a sandwich and gave the dog her crusts, which to my surprise she ate happily. So I got her a peice of whole meal bread and gave it to her in bitesize bits, again she ate this. I then tried to hand feed her chicken and rice which she turned her nose up at.
Is it ok to give her whole meal bread and can anyone suggest what else I can try for a sensitive belly without breaking the bank?

I boiled the rice and chicken together and pretended to eat it myself, I have heard to do that to a; show you are top dog and b; coax pets into eating something they don't normally eat. have since tried a bit of cheese (no go), a carrot (not impressed), tuna (not a chance), CAT food (yeah right), and a bit of chicken in butter (don't think so). Normally all these things, including her normal dry food is eating withen minutes. My dog can't survive on bread alone surly, specially if she doesn't feel well....

try mixing scrambled eggs with the chicken..thats what we gave my dog when she had the runs (she was quite young as well) and she ate that up...she got better in about a week! If your pup doesnt like the chicken and scrabled egg, how about mixing the egg with some of that whole meal bread? or maybe try mixing the bread with the chicken and rice? try some combinations! its worth a shot!

good luck!

let me know how it goes

Get some canned pumpkin and give your pup about a teaspoon. That will take care of the tummy and the runs. Give one teaspoon today and one in the morning-no more. Don't overdo it with the bread or it will be ahrd to get the pup to eat anything other than human food. I take the rest of the can of pumpkin and fill an ice cube tray. Freeze it and then keep it in a ziplock bag for another time.
Add some garlic powder to the chicken and rice mixture and maybe some carrots.

How did you prepare the chicken and rice? Perhaps try just plain, steamed chicken without any salt or seasonings - it will taste bland like the bread so maybe she will eat it. You could also cook the rice in chicken broth and make it soupy, then run it through a food processor and make it into a porridge.

The same happened to my 6 mth old pup. The vet gave us some dog food for sick dogs, but my Charlie would just turn his nose up at it. I tried chicken didn't work even tried scrambled egg.

In the end after 2 days of not eating I got some pedigree chum puppy food which he wolfed down.
He's belly is now better but still very fussy about what he will eat. He will only eat Vitalin complete food now.
I have heard that 'chappie' dog food is good for dogs with upset tummies.

A bit of bread won't hurt her, but she can't live on that. If she doesn't like the hamburger, you could try a bit of lamb or mutton and add some garlic and anise seed to it when you're boiling. Dogs love garlic and for some reason, they also love anise. Maybe she also needs a little time to recover before her appetite returns, I wouldn't be too worried for a day or so, but by then she should start eating. Hope she's ok.

Let her eat the bread,as it's probably soothing to her.It won't hurt her,and she has to eat something.Don't give her anything else except for the bread, unless she will eat the chicken and rice.Bread is bland,as is the chicken and rice.If you give her something that's too rich ,it might cause her to start with diarrhea again.Dogs are smart;they know what they need. When she's feeling better, she'll start eating her normal diet again.

maybe you should try to prepare the chicken and rice a differnt way..or even put the chicken and rice into the bread somehow..Maybe if she sees your kid eating it, the dog will too.
